so, it's Tax Free weekend here and I really need to get school supplies... but I really didn't want to get out in the mayhem.

So, my clever little self loaded up FOUR kids' school supplies into the online cart at Walmart.com. Took almost three freakin' hours out of my day to do this... with each child taking turns picking out pencil boxes and folders. :dizzy

I was so proud of myself. Got it ALL. :woot

Here's the rub. I haven't been able to check out. ALL DAY. Like for six hours now. The message popped up that the checkout link is not working b/c of the traffic on the site. WHAT?

*head band* :furious

Apparently, I was not the only one with this bright idea. And despite my pat on my own back, it appears I'll be out in the throngs of people tomorrow anyway. :tantrum

Oh noooooo. That is so frustrating Jen! If it makes you feel any better, I'll be fighting the crowds a bit this week-end also- looking for the perfect backpacks.... Who knew boys could be so particular?!

how frustrating.... that is the side of technology that I find difficult to deal with...no way of getting around it :(

Hope you can solve it easy
Hugggzz

yep - that is why i am going to just pay the tax and get it next weekend (after i am sure of what they really, actually need) - tried to find shoes for the boy today in a store in my part of GA and it was craziness - tomorrow will probably be scarier! I hope your cart will finally finish checking out (and p.s. - why would they not realize that there would be TONS of traffic - they certainly knew about tax-free weekend!)

Oh, wow! How frustrating! Hope the checkout starts working!

We've purchased school supply packs from the kids' schools through the PTA the last several years. Maybe a bit more expensive, but sooooooooooo much easier, and it's a fundraiser for the school. However... I don't think DS's school is doing it this year, and I think I forgot to order DD's last spring (we may be able to purchase one at the schedule pick-up in a couple of weeks). Guess I should go see if I can find supply lists on the school websites just in case. :blush

I am the worst mom in history...I buy what I think they need and send that. I got them last year on clearance and they are in their backpacks under their beds.
I do this every year, and the end of the school year, they come home again with more markers and crayons(do these things copulate at school).

Tax free weekend? Really? It must be a U.S thing... How frustrating though. Sounds like something that would happen to me... ;)

Jen print out the list and go to Wlly-World at 6am before everyone gets up... I got at the early morning as anything later is a zoo at Walmart!

I've got to go to Target this weekend for the same thing. But... I'm waiting until Sunday (I think). I never even thought about going ahead and getting shoes (we don't start back to school for another month).

Oh no Jen... that totally sucks! I figured that I would rather just pay the tax then save that little bit of money and deal with all of the people. Drives me bonkers to be out with all of that! :dizzy

tax-free weekend??? I don't we do that in CA...I love shopping for school supplies. Sent a huge box of them to the DGC in Okinawa. They loved them. Their selection is limited and this way they get something different from everyone else and I get to look like a "GOOD" nana.

I did not realize you could get the tax free on the web sites. I already purchased my kids supplies last week because I'd rather pay tax than fight the madness. Having said that though, I was out anyway yesterday with taking the baby for his check up and I made a little stop by Target for a few things and I was surprised how slow it was. It wasn't crowded at all. I guess they were all back home shopping online.

Oh, I agree about paying the tax to avoid the madness! Totally. The problem is that if I wait until AFTER this weekend, I'll have to go to no less that five stores to get everything on the four lists, and our teachers are pretty specific (I speak from experience, LOL). The stores don't tend to restock after this weekend b/c school starts next week.

And, bad momma that I am, I procrastinated *sigh*.

Re: Anne... I ONLY get what we have to get as well, but b/c my kids go to a small private school, the list is quite extensive. The good news is that we use backpacks more than one year so I only have 2 of those to replace, and my high schooler told me all he really needs is paper, thumb drive and pens, LOL. hmmm... I'm gonna roll with it.

UPDATE: I did as Christa suggested and left my house at 6:30am. Walmart was empty *yay* even if a bit picked over already from yesterday.

So win/win for me. Almost done! The rest can wait until Monday :)

Oh, my HS also told us that he needs a new laptop, hehe. They are required to have them at school and his is a macbook from 2008. He may have a point but it is not in the budget right now :)

This year will be the first year that our school is issuing brand new ipads to all students grade 6-12. They pioneered it last year in the high school, and it worked well, so they took it to the 6-8th graders this year.It has their text books, notes, and many of their homework assignments. The school is utilizing an app that shows schedules and texts on a cloud, homework and group work on a cloud. Should be interesting to see how this year goes.

Even still, we had to buy tons of paper and supplies... hmmmm???

OMgosh. That would be awesome! Our school requires laptops for HS but doesn't provide them. Fortunately, ours has one (a hand-me-down from 2008) and fortunately Macbooks do not change all that much *whew*. I think we'll have to replace the battery if we can find one that old, but o/w it'll do. Our next child will be in HS next year so we'll have to cross the laptop bridge again then.

I think iPads would be a great compromise. Especially if the school provides it. We have had an app with homework/notes/grades/family info, etc... for a while and I use it a lot with a couple of my kids.

Yet, a binder for every class. Composition books. On and On. I guess technology can only take us so far :)

I had totally planned to do the tax free weekend in VA this weekend, wasn't looking forward to it, but was going to brave it LOL Then I found out that Wal-Mart was doing 10% back for teachers last week on school supplies so I went then and got it all done :)

ooh, poor you! nothing worse than spending a bunch of time on something only to have to do it all over again... the long way

Glad to hear the early morning shop wasn't too bad. I was looking through the school supply section at Fred's yesterday and was thrilled to find retractable highlighters. I use them to mark off page titles and another color highlighter when posted and done with a page. I was thrilled with my $2.49 find! I hate uncapping and recapping the lids :)

So, round 2 of my Shopping Adventure is complete!

Walmart early morning. Check.

Target this afternoon WITH my 2 youngest kids for backpacks and school clothes. Check.

Now the 2 oldest still need a couple of pair of khaki shorts and one has holes in his tennis shoes, LOL. Other than that, we are ready :).

And I'm sort of tired.
