I actually read the entire piece in the Washington Post a few years ago when it came out (I think I was pregnant with Emma at the time) it was much longer but I came across a shorter version of it pinned by a friend of mine on Pinterest this weekend. It's truly eye opening so I thought I would share.

If anyone want the full article let me know and I can post it.

I remember the longer piece from the Post. It was truly fascinating. I think the thing that got me was that every single kid wanted to stop and listen, but every parent rushed them along. It's a GREAT reminder that we need to slow down and give our kids (and ourselves!) time to soak in beauty, grace and all the good stuff!

wow, that is amazing. I am so guilty of trying to hurry my kids along and not taking time to enjoy the moments and be grateful for each of them.

Wow - that is amazing. What a good message and food for thought. I am one of those moms who are guilty of rushing the kids through things.

That was very eye opening. I am so guilty of rushing through life. Thanks for link to that article, Kelly!

Amazing! I would have stopped. I am always trying to point out the beauty in things around us to my children. Music especially.

I just saw that on pinterest this morning. I'm not sure if I would have stopped, but I'm sure that if my kids had stopped, I would have let them listen for awhile.

Ohhh I remember reading about this! I like to think I would have stopped. He would have had me at the Bach.

Incidentally, this reminds me of that Joni Mitchell song "For Free"...it's beautiful...and so like this moment here.

Wow, thats really powerful Kelly, thanks for sharing!!
I would like to think that I would be one of those who stopped, but I could have just as easily been one to walk by running late or trying to get it all done in time..

I loved when we were in Europe, and after shops closed down and people started coming out for the evening, musicians (probably ones that played for their living during the day) would come out into doorways or in front of shops. People would stop and spend quite a long time listening to them. No one was in a hurry. It was amazing.

We always tried to stop, especially if they kids wanted to. Many times, we'd end up buying one of their CD's if they had some for sale and the kids really liked their music.

Love this article. I saw it a bit back & thought about it for days. I want to think that I would stop but it is hard to know.
