So yesterday my daughter & I decided to do some work outside, and it led to redoing an old wood / iron bench we have had for years. when DH called to chat from work, I told him what I was doing, and he said, "Really? THAT's what you thought you should do with your time? Don't you have anything else that's a higher priority?"

I wanted to kick him in the shins! *lol* When I asked what he would rather I do, he said, "I don't know, I don't really have anything in mind."

so then why does it matter if I started the bench? i dunno.

The iron is painted. Now I'm in the process of sanding the wood boards and refinishing them. Then I'm hoping i can remember how to reassemble it! :giggle

That sounds like an awesome project. I'd be so mad at my husband if he questioned how i spent my time, especially if he couldn't back up his priorities statement ya know. I say kick him in the shins. :)

That would be something my husband would say. Unless I respond that I'm cooking up a feast, he thinks it's a waste of time. LOL

That sounds like a great project, Rebecca! Sorry that your DH was such a party pooper about it. I can't wait to see what the bench looks like when it's finished.

haha. rebecca, that sounds way husband like. but it sounds like an awesome project. do you have any before photos, because you know we are going to ask for afters!!

Yay for the project! Sounds fabulous! Can't wait to see before and afters!

Also, boo on party poopers. That is all.

That sounds awesome Rebecca! I can't wait to see picts (that is if you really haven't forgotten how to put it back together :) )

um, i kind of forgot to take a full-on "before" picture. i DID take a picture of the connecting pieces so that I had a frame of reference for how to put it back together *lol* but you can at least get an idea of how aweful it looked before... and i'm sure i can dig up an older picture of the bench... it looked bad enough even a few years ago!

i think he realized how his comment made me feel yesterday because when i talked to him today i asked him if there was anything he knew of that he wanted done, and he said, "Nope. I want you to do whatever makes you happy." love that. ;)

did i mention that the metal is bright blue? i think he is scared of the blue. :giggle

Sounds fantastic! I wish I had something old to redo around here. I love to tear stuff apart and put it back together! Can't wait to see the after pics...the blue sounds awesome! And, glad that party pooper was nice today. Until I read that, I wanted to kick him in the shins. LOL! ;)

:giggle I'm glad your husband made up for it today. :) What a cool project! I'm not handy at all and I would not know where to start something like this!

Sounds like a fun project. Would love to see pixs of it done.
my hubby always says "what are you up to honey?"
it makes me laugh sometimes. He just doesnt want me lifting heavy stuff, so once i start on anything.. i usually hear that coming from him. Sometimes he gets all into it himself..lol.

I'm so impressed! With your self control on limiting the kicking to his shins, I mean. ; )

No, seriously impressed with your motivation to take apart anything and paint it. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Can't wait to see pictures of your latest project! :)

Oh I know the type. I cleaned the study the other day, and granted it was so I could sew, but my DH says "Why did you do that?" Hmmm could it be those were our important papers waiting to be filed and the kids were walking all over them. (rolling eyes)

OMGosh Rebecca...that is so something I would say to my husband!! lol

I can't stand it when he gets started on projects that I think are silly, and i've got a honey do list of some very important things (imho anyway)

I can't wait to see the photos!!

debra! what am i going to do with you?! you know this is not the first time you and he have had similar behavioral tendencies! i guess that means i would be likely to marry you :giggle

in all seriousness, though, i don't think he meant anything aweful by it. he is just the most direct / blunt person i know, and he just says what he's thinking - exactly the way he's thinking it. *lol*

Can't wait to see your project rebecca! You would think that the husbands would learn to keep their mouths shut. I normally mow the grass since I work out of the house and can do it over my lunch hour. When DH complains because i don't clean off the mower when I am finished i get a bit testy!

LOL

We need pictures!

well i have NO good pictures, but here are the 2 i took before i got started. the point of the pics was to photograph the brackets & screws & such for reassembly. but you can get an idea of what the wood and metal looked like before i got started. i'll see if i can get out to take a picture or two of my progress today. we'll see... the rain!!
