When we move this summer, I'm going to start a photography business. It's not that I don't enjoy real estate. I really do! But, we will be moving 2 times in the next 2 years, possibly 3 times in 3 years! That just doesn't work well for building a real estate business. I want (read need) to do something with my time. I can't just sit around the house for 3 years. And well...I love photography, so after much thought, discussion, and prayer, I've decided to start a photography business.

I've been mulling over names. The two I'm thinking of now is "In The Blink Of An Eye" or "In A Blink". I'm afraid "In The Blink Of An Eye" might be a bit too long. What do you think?

My thoughts behind the name is this: Life. Time. They pass in the blink of an eye. I'm afraid if I blink too fast that I'll miss my babies growing up. Know what I mean? Since B was born I've often wished I had a way to freeze time, to stop the blinking. Then it hit me. That's the beauty of photography. I CAN freeze time! With the simple push of a button, I can keep them little forever! And that's why I love photography so much. That's the reason I want to do this. To give the gift of time.

So I need your opinions. Cast your vote. Throw out other name ideas along those lines if they come to you.

Thanks chickies!

Good for you!! Exciting stuff Jordan:) And I always love the pics on your pages too... it's a good fit!
I like "In a Blink" b/c to me it's short and sweet and gets it all out there succinctly
Best wishes! Where are you moving?

Thanks, Krista! We're heading to Virginia in July. :)

Lots of luck with your move and your new photography business! How exciting! I really like both names. Please let us know what you go with. :)

good luck Jordan! I love In a blink and agree the other one is too long for a business name. But having said that...what about going shorter again...Blink. Just throwing it out there!

Good idea, Eryn. I'll start throwing it around. I had also considered "Don't Blink", but then I remembered that Kenny Chesney song and thought that would be way too cheesy. lol.

Congrats, Jordan - that's so exciting.
As far as the name, what about Life Blinks?
It's still short and I think the life part would give good insight into being more a lifestyle photographer. Just a thought...

I like "In a Blink". Congrats on your move! What an exciting adventure to start a photography business!

Oh Jordan, how exciting!!! I think you'll do totally awesome with a photography biz!!!

Personally, I like when photographers use their own name for their business... but I think "In A Blink" is really cute too especially if you think you're only going to do it for the 3 years and you might decide to go back to real estate when you get settled in somewhere. If you're thinking longer term though, I'd probably consider using your name.

I like "In a Blink" too. You might check to make sure it's not already being used where you'll be. I did a quick search and found several photographers using these and similar names at different places around the country. Good luck to you! :)

How exciting!! I love your photos and I agree that it's a great fit for you!

I don't know much at all about the business, but I'd suggest this too, especially since you already know you'll be moving around quite a bit.

Congrats Jordan! I like just "Blink of an Eye" with out the "in the blink of an eye"

Good Luck on the move and the new business venture. I'm sure you're going to do great with whatever name you choose.

Ooh.... how exciting Jordan!
I like your suggestions.

I thought I'd throw out the consideration that your logo or name will be going on your photos. My SIL is a fantastic photographer, but she said that having a long name is very difficult to put on photo images when they are printed. Also, she said be sure it is a name that SENIOR high schoolers would'nt mind having on their senior pictures as well. Is is more childlike or what clientle will you be going after? KWIM?

See. This is why I came here for opinions! You guys have pointed out things I'd have never thought of! :) I want to focus on family lifestyle photography. Families, newborns, and perhaps seniors. I'm not really interested in weddings. Too much pressure. I screw up a family shoot, I can re-schedule them. I screw up a wedding, I'm pretty sure I couldn't get a do-over. lol.

The thing is I just don't like the sound of Jordan Carroll Photography. It just doesn't flow well. And well, it's just boring and vanilla. (This coming from the girl wearing hot pink jeans today, mind you). :P I wanted something more...memorable? I don't know. Do you really think just using my name is a better idea?
