I have a Nikon D5000 and need a perfect zoom lens....

Can any of you point me in the right direction? I have been thinking about the Nikon 70-300mm lens but wanted to hear your thoughts! Also... This isn't a zoom lens but what are your thoughts on the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G

I don't have the 70-300 but do have the 50 mm dunno why but once again I'm not thrilled about the 50 mm 1.4. I had one for my canon previously and wasn't thrilled. I'm going to pick up a 35 mm next month.

I do have a 55-300 for zoom and I love it!

The D5000 is a cropped frame right?? I have the D90 (a cropped frame) and I have a 35mm and a 50mm. I love both, but find I use the 35mm more often around the house. The 50 is just too tight indoors on my cropped frame. I do however love to use my 50 outdoors. It takes really beautiful pictures. You may also want to consider the 70-200. I couldn't justify the price of the Nikkor 70-200, but I got the Tamron, which is less than half the price, and it's amazing! It stays on my camera at all of Brady's sporting events.
