If my boys go to age 18 without fracturing some part of their body. Alas, one of them won't for sure. My poor super active little 6 year old boy, Mathieu, fractured his wrist when he fell out of the neighbour's open trampoline door and smacked it onto the chair they use to get in and out of it. My heart breaks for him since this is the last week of school and summer vacation will be starting. Thankfully he's such a little trooper and has adapted very well to having an above elbow on his dominant hand. Hopefully he will only need it for 4 weeks. :(

Here he is with just the plaster slab, heartbreaking isn't he....:

Getting his fibre glass above elbow cast:

Actually getting used to it and smiling:

Building Legos with the wrong hand... he did so well!

Awww - poor guy! But he looks like he is doing well with it - hope that continues to be true! My son is the same age - they are so active but so able to adapt! (Btw... Mathieu is my maiden name!)

Ohhhh...poor guy! I hope he can keep his spirits up while the cast is on! Often the kids get through it much better than the parents!

Oh dear. Boys will be boys huh? I'm sure he'll take it all in strides and in a blink the cast will be off and he'll be running around normal again! Hopefully he doesn't use that cast as a weapon against his brother! LOL!

Oh boy... I know this will happen to me too! Hugs to you both! Hoping he is smiling and feeling better now!

Renee, I know what you mean. Cos my son started getting similar injuries from 7yo to 12yo. Two times were the same elbow. One at the wrist. One at the hip bones.

The last injury he had was self-inflicted at 14yo (2yrs ago) = nail biting. And that resulted in his 1st GA and major operation. It took me a year later to scrap about it. :p

This was Oct 2010, 12yo. He had the wrist injury in April 2010. He went cycling with his friends after school. He stood at the back of the bicycle. He said he lost his balance and fell face down.

Instead of making his wrist injury worse, he bloodied his knees. *roll eyes*

Luckily the other hand that supported & break the fall didn't come to harm. O'wise he'd be labelled as a disabled person.

This was in Dec 2008, 10yo, a few days before school starts.
Diagnosis: Inflammation at the hips thus the difficulty & pain in walking.

Bless his heart!! And yours :( he looks so sad, but he is trooper--can't keep him from playing Legos!!

Maybe this will make you feel better too:

My youngest was the ripe old age of 14 months old when his older brother (3 years old) opened the basement door for him to try the stairs on his own. Worst phone call of my life to date! Thankfully he's had no problems with his leg since then and he doesn't even remember it.

Oh no, poor guy!

DD fell from her bunk bed when she was 7 and broke her arm. That child must have the highest pain threshold ever. She gave a blood curdling scream right after she fell but then she acted like everything was ok. We almost didn't even take her to the hospital..and then when we were waiting for the doctor to come in she was laying on her broken arm, smiling and giggling. We were like she's ok, the doc was like she's ok but lets x-ray anyway. So glad he did. He had the most surprised sound in his voice when he came back in the room and told us that she broke her ulna, and of course it was her dominant hand and summer as well. She really did adapt easily though.

Oh my gosh Karen. That had to have been so scary.

Aw...poor guy! My oldest girl broke her leg when she was 10 and I can still remember her hobbling around with crutches and a cast. Back then I wasn't a scrapper and never took photos of her during that time. I should have.

ow!!!! I did not have to deal with any of this when my daughter was younger...and so far the DGC have not faced this. Good luck to him, he probably is not as bothered with the cast as Mom is...they are so adaptable. Hope he does not have to have that cast all summer.

oh my gosh, this picture is too scarry, I can not even imagine what this must have been like. happy to read he does not have any lingering issues.

Oh my goodness, that first photo breaks my heart. I'm glad he's adjusting and hope 4 weeks from now he'll be cast free!

Ouch!!! My pitter patter heart !!!!

This reminded me that when ds was ard 3yo, while having a shower with his father, he slipped and knocked his head against the side of the toilet bowl. And that resulted in one big gash on his forehead.

In the ER, he had to be under the GA to get it sewn up. Half-way thru the stitching, he woke up and freaked out. I just chickened out and left the room while crying my heart out. Leaving his father in there trying to console the lil one while the doctor continued sewing.

The forehead was still numb so he felt nothing. But my ds was strapped down. Esp the head was "supported" by two brick-like thingy.

But once the ordeal was over, he's back to normal. That lil scar on his forehead is not visible to the naked eyes.

Bless his heart! And yours, too. I think it's harder on the parents sometimes. My oldest broke both bones in his forearm when he was 7, at church of all places lol. It was a Sunday evening in the ER, so there were no X-Ray techs there at the moment, they had to call one in. The nurse said "we have to make sure it's broken" about the time she lifted his hand and his forearm bent right in the middle like an elbow. I was screaming "OMG OMG put it down!" He never shed a tear or made a whimper.

Oh the poor dears. Boys. (Doesn't that say it all?)

On Thursday my youngest (8) slipped on wet grass when his teammate made a slide tackle to try to save a goal. Unfortunately my guy fell and has a very bad break of his collar bone. On his dominant hand side, too. :( We spent Thursday night at one hospital and Friday night at another (the pain was just too intense).

My heart sure breaks for all these kids. And Renee -- I totally sympathize -- summer is going to be a tough one. At least there is only 3 more days of school, his left-hand printing is unrecognizable.

Oh no! Collarbone fractures are no fun at all! Does he have a sling across his back holding his arm next to him? Thankfully I am an X-ray tech and have a bit of pull otherwise he would have been in that slab cast and probably would have made his fracture worse and ended up in a cast anyways and possibly surgery. This my friends is why we have specialists...

Poor little dude! He'll be back at it in no time!
