I don't think I'm ever going to finish unpacking....

This has been the hardest move ever. Since everything was packed hurriedly and then stored in a garage for 3 months, it all has to be sorted and cleaned. Then we lost our furniture hardware...took us two weeks to track that down...and then a week ago we got the last bit of our furniture and boxes.

I scheduled a gathering here tomorrow about a month ago, hoping it would give me incentive to have everything unpacked and tidy, but with all of the things that have happened I still have boxes upon boxes to unpack (and figure out where the heck to put things...going from 7 closets to barely 3 is hard...even if it is a much bigger place.

So long story short...today i'm stacking all the boxes as neat as I can behind the sofa in the family room just so I can get the floors vacuumed and swept and mopped just so we don't look like the biggest slobs in the world (even though right now I feel like it).

I'm super looking forward to having lots of family and friends over, since it's been so long since we've been close enough (or had the space) to do that. I just wish I could figure out how to live my life more organized and with less stuff.

Just hoping I make it through today....I'm already exhausted and only about half finished.

I feel for you Sarah! I'm in the middle of packing for a move right now. Our move date is July 27th. Fortunately we don't have to store stuff for any length of time and the new house is just 2 1/2 hours from here. Hang in there!!

We moved in to our new house in Feb. Half our stuff did not fit and sits in boxes in the garage. I have only been out there once for the slow cooker. Enjoy your party forget the boxes. They will still be there when you are ready to tackle them

I seem to need less stuff with every move. It's easier to get rid of things than move them if you've "grown apart" and don't use/want/need them anymore.

I agree, the boxes will be there later. Tackle this elephant one bite at a time...

I don't mind PACKING for a move (I like being able to look at everything in my home and really decide to purge what we don't need. It's a good "Spring cleaning" technique). But I haaaaate unpacking. It always takes more time than you think, doesn't it? :dizzy

The unpacking will get done eventually. Go at your own pace. At least now you can scrap, so you can unwind and have fun (in between the work).

color me a weirdo! I love to move!
making a place that is done it the most important...a little room that you can escape too..the whole family without boxes is like heaven!
Then take your time....you are home...laugh take pictures and these are memories being made!

Well I survived the weekend.

I didn't get to mop and vacuum and that made me upset...but honestly nobody seemed to notice...or at least didn't make any snide comments to me about my housekeeping skills.

We made Hot Tamales courtesy of the Good Eats recipe for everyone..and boy were they yummy. We'd never made tamales before so it was a fun experience. We spent all day playing games and eating and I think an awesome time was had by all. I'd made a comment that we wanted to try to do this every couple of months to one of our friends and he looked at me and said .. you said couple of weeks right?....lol.

Already looking forward to the next one..and hopefully we'll have some more floor space so that if people want to stay later and crash for the night there will be a little bit of room to set up an air bed or two. A couple of the people that came had a 2 hour drive and if my youngest brother comes it 3.5 hours for him, so having that option will make it a little bit easier for some of our family and friends i think.

I have 2 of my nephews for the week. My sister is coming to pick them up on Thursday so I don't know how much more unpacking is going to get done before then...but I'm going to do my best to do little bits here and there while enjoying some time with them as well.

Sounds like game day was a hit! Bet it felt good to unwind and have fun. The packing will get done....eventually. As for the housework....I'm the wrong person to comment on it. I often choose scrapbooking, watching a show, going outside....anything rather than housework. I don't like a lot of clutter but I definitely let things slide if I've got other stuff to do.

So glad everyone had a good time, and that you're getting to enjoy your nephews. :) The last time we moved was in 1995. Some friends of ours came over and helped us unpack and set up all the necessities. I highly recommend free help. ;) Of course, we had about 90% less stuff than we do now, so if we ever have to move again, it would require an army of help. :giggle

I'm glad you had a fun gathering! I don't envy the moving and unpacking. I told my husband we can never move. We've collected WAY too much junk in the 10 years we've been in this house!

I'm glad you got through the weekend - it's all good from here...

we are about to have our third move in 12 months - we still have almost all our stuff still in boxes in the garage but this will be our last move for a while, looking forward to our own home instead of rentals.

ohhh Sarah, really feel for you, something similar happened to us and I know how diifffcult it can be to unpack and get back to normal (or relatively normal) life...
hope you enjoy time with family & friends!
