is there any reason that the designers cant have a consistant way to name the files ?

it is pretty easy to search for things ( i am on a PC) if the name has a keyword that you would use for the search. I know there are other scrapping sites that do this now so I realize it is a change for the designers but it would be great if it could be considered and great for us scrappers when we are doing our layouts

here is an example and something that made me want to post this and hopefully hear if this is doeable or eventually can be done

today i was unzipping my great stuff from jj Reed collection that I subscribe to and love...

in a folder called wtflair there are many flairs that have the name flair and a number. if i were to want to find flairs for a layout and in windows in my lily pad folder just searched flair they would come up , along with any other files that have the word flair in them. this would let me see all the flairs i have and then i can choose what i need for my layout....however in the same file, called jj-stReed-wtflair there were also 12 lovely pieces of tape but the names on the tapes were just wt and a number. so if i were to do a search for tape they would never come up and i may never find them or be able to use them ...

i am not sure if i am very clear here and anyone understands what i am explaining and hoping that the designers ( going forward) can consider doing so please let me know if my post makes any sense and also if it is at least a possibility to explore

thanks so much

I agree. The filenames and there length seem to bother me and confuse windows 8 at times (from length or having a punctuation in the filename (I always took that, as a Mac, doesn't have problems with these)

also maybe tou in a separate zip then in every folder within a kit.

thanks cath for your input ..hoping some others see this and we can see what changes may be possible

it looks like not alot of people responded so i am trying to bump it up to see if this is possible

Thank you for your feedback!

As you will see in my storyteller collections I try my best to name all of my elements in a descriptive manner. The wt stands for washi tape and I've been using that short form since 2012 :) Force of habit but I will try better in future kits not to shorten those names up!

I have seen this too. I've searched "journal" "cards" and "jc" to find journal cards, and then see that some designers use "filler" or "pocket" instead. Lol. I've just gotten used to different names from different designers, basically.

thanks laura and jamie and i think if somehow the designers could all get together on this it would be so usefu for us as scrappers/customers...if the names of items were the same and spelled out we can search all our lily pad files and come up with all the wonderful products we are needing from our stash... thanks for considering this and hoping it can happen

I would like to see more descriptive names as well. I search the same way? Select my lilypad folder and type tape in the search box. If it doesn't come up chances are I won't add it to a layout. My ideal naming convention would be name and color, I.e. jjraine_tape_red1.

Just a suggestion.....

I think it a great idea to have a more consistent naming system.

Any of you have have real problems keeping things organised might like Craft Artist 2. I have all my digikits saved separately and have included which BYOC they're from in the name, so all the BYOCs are grouped together, which is great!

My favourite thing is the way all the items are displayed in the workspace (down the left in the picture).

You can import your alphas and CA2 has a box where you type your message or heading, and it comes up on your page without you having to find all the individual letters. I love it!
The picture shows the pop up box that comes up when you want to import a kit into your workspace :)

CA2 does pretty much everything PSE can, and some more besides (like stamps and punches). Anything I can't do with CA2 I just do with PSE anyway.

I'm not sure it could compete with the full Photoshop (which I don't have), but its a great extra :)

It's quite cheap, about $20 I think.

What is it that you're searching for and can't find, Cath? I think for the most part designers try to name things in a way that makes sense to the majority of their customers.. We actually had a lengthy discussion about it in our private forum the last time this issue was brought up. I'm curious to know what you're having trouble with and would love to help if I can.. :)

i leary of tagging, lost all the meta data on a bunch of pictures once.

Sorry Amber, just fustrated last nite, I out of hard drive space, my lily things in 7
parts as to be backed up

i bb when i determine what it was i was looking for, when it shows up again.

BTW, i did alot of shopping in retired time, so have alot of old things, prior to todays naming

Okay, well good luck.. Maybe after a good night's rest things won't look quite so bad.. :) :heartlub
