and apparently accidentally deleted 2 folders of stuff I'd been working on. :tantrum

I am my own worst enemy.

And yes, I'd long since emptied the recycle bin. :thumbsdowns

I got a bit of yucky tummy at the thought of this...hard to recreate. So in your honor I cleared off 3 jpgs on mine...very cautiously.

Oh, no! I save way more to my desktop than I should, especially projects in progress. I've been working on trying not to do that as much, just for this very reason.

Ugh. That sucks. Do you use Crash Plan by chance? They do versioned backups so you can restore deleted files.

don't change anything else to your system! do you have a PC? there are free recovery programs you can install. I've done this before - seriously, you are not the only one!! I've had to use a recovery program at least twice now to recover huge amounts of stuff. but it works best if you use it immediately, because as soon as you work on something or save to the directory you deleted from, it starts writing over the deleted stuff and you will NOT be able to recover it!

*edit - going through my programs, it looks like I used pandora recovery to recover my deleted files.

Do you keep any online back-up? I use Back Blaze and you can go in and look at things that you deleted up to 1 month ago I think? I know this because I once delete a full year of commercial use designs tools. EEK!

Of course not.

And it was a couple months ago that I cleaned out my work folder, so it's lonnnnnnng gone.

It was 1.75 sets of templates. I have the preview for the one that was finished, so I at least can recreate those. But the other set it just gone and I super loved them. Naturally I don't remember exactly what they looked like since it was so long ago. I think I used one for a layout, though so I can refer to that... so maybe I've only truly lost 2 of them. Still sad.

That sucks :(
My husband is a IT and always says not to keep important things on my desktop. Just shortcut to folders...

You could also try EaseUs (recovery software)- I tried it and downloaded from Cnet.com. The trial only lets you recover 1GB free but I was able to get back deleted files I was looking for. The program was able to pull up all of the old files I had on my EHD from at least 2 or 3 months ago.

Fortunately I keep everything in folders and get into it via Explorer, ACDSee, LR, etc. I never use my desktop. Never look at it, and I never really knew I could. I always download my scrapbook stuff to my downloads folder in my supplies folder. I always save my supplies and pages in progress in the scrapbook folder.

But that really does stink. I lost my very first scrapbook pages in a hard drive crash before I had a backup system in place that backs up everything. Somehow the scrapbook pages folder wasn't selected for backup. Now *everything* is selected for backup. Actually I have Crashplan in the cloud and another program for my EHD backup every night. I hate data losses.

I hope recovery software can help you.
