@NBK-Design Have been meaning to post this here for ages......... a couple of months back I printed out some stuff from Nicole's Love and Light Collection and made a double page in my art journal.

I printed everything out on an inkjet printer then very carefully and gently covered all the pieces I cut out with matte medium gel to seal them so I could use some wet medium over the top of them. The trick with that is to kind of dab the matte medium on it, not stroke it and don't go over the same spot more than twice otherwise the ink smears....... as I found out a few times! LOL! I had a load of fun doing these pages and am quite happy with how they turned out as I don't use this particular colour palette very much.

I printed everything on everyday copier paper and after sealing, used watercolours and then thick gesso over the top.

In hindsight I really wish I had purchased a laser printer instead of the inkjet but am learning to work with it.... recently found out if I print in grayscale, the printer uses the Pigment printing cartridge only which means it is water resistant, the colour cartridges are filled with dye ink, hence the smearing when applying anything wet on top of them.

Anyway, I just thought some of you might like to see the finished pages. :)

This is absolutely breathtaking! I am just starting out but we have no printer so o have to use paint. Not good at it yet!

Thanks Susie! Well as mentioned, printing stuff out on an ink jet is a bit more labor intensive but another way is to get some things printed is at your local copier. I have created some A4 size jpeg pages of just elements and word art etc etc. which I will then email to our local printer/copier for them to print out......... just on normal photo copy paper (very inexpensive), then just pick up when I am in town next to do the shopping. Which reminds me, I need to get some more printing done. :)

That is a great idea!! I never thought of that!

@wombat146 LOVE your pages!!!! :heartslub:clap
Not sure if you knew, but you can use Fixative or hair spray to seal your prints. Fixative will keep ANY ink or watercolor yet allow it to remain workable. It won't allow bleeding or smearing. You can use it multiple times.
The difference between the two is acid. Hair spray has acid, and fixative doesn't.
Fixatives are made specially for paper artworks. Graphite, charcoal, pastels, etc.
So, to sum it all up, hairspray is not good for the preservation of your hard work. If you want your art to last well past yourself, make sure you take all the steps needed to keep it from decaying before its time. So if one creates for longevity, sale, or gallery you want fixative. If for enjoyment, then hair spray will work!!

@AJK Amanda, thanks for your lovely comments! and thanks for the fixative info above, I have used it before. Had to go outside to do it of course but unfortunately the odor hung around for ages when I bought it inside, ended up having to put the pages in a cupboard in the laundry! Some 8 months after, I can still smell it so I haven't used it since. :sickie

As to the hairspray, tried that as well and same thing, the smell has hung around............. after the pages sat around and dried completely over a couple of days, I put them into 12x12 scrapbook paper plastic storage box and now, when I open the box, months later again, I get a whiff of hairspray. But at least the hairspray smells better than the fixative. I was on Youtube the other day and someone suggested unscented hairspray, but I haven't been able to find any down here in Tassie so I might need to purchase it online. :yup

Thank you for sharing Ona! It is fantastic to see the hybrid forum popping! I hope others start to share their hybrid projects here also!

This is SO gorgeous Ona! You're making me want to pull out my art journal and get playing again. It's been months and months since I've taken the time to just play. I've used the workable fixative also on inkjet printed stuff too and you're totally right about the smell. I actually broke down last year and purchased a cheap laser printer just so I could use more of my digi-stash for my art journal stuff without having to worry about smearing the ink. :giggle

Thanks Karen!! xx I am finding that getting them printed at the local copier place is the way to go, I like just having a small stash of digi stuff printed out as I tend to use magazines and tissue paper/napkins way more. :) That old saying.... "Where there is a will, there is a way!!!" is quite true!! :giggle
