Hubby and I have decided that instead of another family vacation this summer we are going to take a vacation just the two of us. We're thinking Vegas (we have a friend that owns a condo there) or maybe New York. Any other ideas?? We don't really want to do a National Park because the girls loved it and we want to start doing more of those vacations with the kids. Don't really want to do a beach vacation because we want the girls along for that too.

We're going to rent a cabin for a week in northern Minnesota or western Wisconsin with the girls. We want a private cabin that is part of a resort so it will have all kinds of activities.

If anyone has any recommendations on the hubby vacation or resorts in MN/WI let me know. :)

Sounds like fun! My hubby and do a week away every year for the past 10 years or so. We had been going to Williamsburg, VA, but this past fall we went to Myrtle Beach, SC. I think anywhere is good. Just enjoy being together and seek out those lesser know tourist and non-tourist things to do. Eat and hang out with the locals.

Sounds awesome! There's a lot of fun things in Vegas or NY that are easier to do without kids along! Take in a last minute show, enjoy the ambiance of the city late at night, or go to a fancy restaurant where you know your kids wouldn't eat worth the price! I think either of those are great adult places. DH and I want to go to San Francisco with no kid.

@BevG - We were considering SC. Might need to look into that some more.

@bestcee - We want to go to San Francisco with the girls. We'd actually love to do a roadtrip down the coast. The girls really want to see Alcatraz!!

If you go to SC, Hilton Head is very nice. Charleston and Savannah also have charm (only been to Charleston for a quick day trip). Myrtle Beach can be very touristy - go off season but realize some things might be closed.

I would probably do Vegas since that is more of a strictly adult town. There are things kids can do there but there's a lot that is not really appropriate.

Other places? I have done romantic weekends in Montreal and San Francisco (or Napa). Both are lovely. New Orleans is fun and adult too, especially if you love food and live music.

Oh how fun for you and your hubby!! I've never been to Vegas or New York but there has to be a ton of stuff to do at both places!

The American Club in Kohler, WI is very nice.

Also Door County (Wisc) is a nice place to go and just relax. That's my favorite place to just "get away" and forget about the real world for awhile.

Sounds like you have a lot of great ideas. I agree many cities sound more appealing w/out kids. I live near NYC so if you decide on that and want to PM about anything - please do! The hubby and I are looking into Montreal and Quebec when the weather warms up, since it's drivable. New Orleans is another fantastic idea.

I haven't done a lot of traveling, most was done when I was very small or in middle school so I don't remember anything. I do remember OR was beautiful!!

Since I've lived in AZ all my life I recommend Sedona, AZ. There's a ton of cool shops to go into, small and quaint and the red rocks are AMAZING!!! Look into the Pink Jeep tours. You'll need to book a hotel earlier than you think.

There's also Jerome, AZ...though I'm not sure I'd stay the night, but maybe make it a day trip.

Bisbee is also amazing!

Just know, it gets HOT...so look into the temps when you think you'll visit.

If I was going to go on a vacation with my husband, I would rent a cabin in the mountains & hike/explore during the day and chill/hot tub/sleep/'sleep' at night. I'd consider renting a lakeside cabin if we were able to rent a boat to take out, too. I'd want to do as little as possible since I don't have any kids to take care of at the same time. I'd leave all the go-go-go trips for ones I did with my kids.

That's so fun! DH and I have talked about going to Vegas, just the two of us, but we haven't made it happen yet. Wherever you choose, I hope you have a fantastic time.

Vegas is a great place to go when it's grown ups only! When we went, we saw a cirque du soleil show, the blue man group, and had all kinds of fun! We stayed at the Winn, which was gorgeous, just amazing! There was a bathtub big enough for both of us and a tv in the bathroom! We literally watched a movie in the bathtub! It was awesome and you can't do that with your kids!! We also ate at the Winn buffet, and you can't beat that place, it's amazing! You could fast for a week and still not eat everything they offer! You could eat nothing but dessert and still might not be able to try everything!!

Huggles!!

We have some time share weeks at the Marriott (Grand Dunes) in North Myrtle Beach and love it. The beach is just gorgeous and we go in late Sept and October - because we can. We give a week to my eldest son and family (all teenagers now) in July when I'd die from the heat but they love it. It's a great family spot for when you want your children along.

New Orleans is a great couples spot. Lots of walk around and wonderful food of course.

Bev, have you tried the Williamsburg Winery? They have a wonderful hotel there too.. we do a wine cheese overnight with hotel dinner and upgrade to a reserve tour so worth it.. .also Myrtle Beach, my brother has a house in Murrells inlet so we go there too.. @BevG where do you live? we are in Va Beach...

Re Vegas, I love going there... I recommend that (we stay at the Venetian when we go) But Wash DC is nice too... depends what you are looking for.. I think I would go to Vegas if it is just the two of you and sae the like of DC for the trips with the kids.

Nappa is on our bucket list!!

Oh, I adore San Francisco! We did a drive on the PCH a few summers ago, except we went from south to north. Let me know when you're planning that and I'll give you some tips!

@cfile - We have; the last time we did the Reserve tour. That was fun. We have also eaten lunch there 3 or so times. We own a timeshare there so we go often. We live in Durham, NC so only about 3 hours from Wiliamsburg and 4 or so from Myrtle Beach.

We've just finished three days in Vegas and would definitely not want to go there with kids! We had a good time there; saw a fabulous Cirque du Soleil show - Ka, on one night and a comedy show another night with David Spade and Ray Romano, walked the strip both by day and night and took in all the sights. We did think that the food and drinks were vastly overpriced and not as good as many other places we've been plus we are not gamblers so that aspect wasn't appealing. We're currently on our way to Sedona for five days and are really looking forward to it!
Personally, I would rather go to San Francisco, Savannah/Charleston, the Nappa Valley or Jekyll Island in Georgia, than Vegas but it all depends what you are looking for in your getaway!

oh ok... Yeah MB is 6 hours for us so we break up the trip and stop at Kinston and go to Chef & the Farmer.. I love it there in Williamsburg. Glad you enjoy it too!
