...organize your kits?

I think I need to reorganize (I'm a bit OCD that way :giggle) for the new year - I currently have kits by designer all in one big file.

For example -
Happy Huladays . ForeverJoy . TLP
What I Like About You . Pink Reptile . TLP

But think I might set up a folder for each site and then have individual designers in their own folder - IDK.

How do you all do it?

Thanks in advance!!

I have a store folder then subfolders for each designer. Then each kit has a preview thumbnail so I can view it in Bridge.

I love love to organize.
I use the 00 double zero, to put folders I need more often. The CTs I am on, along with BYOCs. Then the rest of the awesome designers here at the Lily Pad.
I then use search and it makes it great!
I don't go to many other stores anymore...but this is how I organize them all. When they move I just cut and paste the folder to new store!

I like the idea of having a preview in Bridge, but have never used that ... Anne, I like your idea of zeros ... and noticed you have a folder of "to use" kits - I need to do that, especially after Black Friday shopping!! (Normally I don't download something unless I'm going to use it right away).
Thanks for sharing!

I'm still hanging onto ACDSee as well...but I'm not doing so good at tagging things lately. I was tagging previews and any individual items that really spoke to me that I knew I wanted to use in a project at some point. I either need to get back to tagging things or find a different system. Lately I've just been relying on my failing memory.

I am an "unpacker" and place the elements in seperate folders.
But I am also way behind so thinking of doing the same workflow you have with working on designer folders. ;-)

I have a folder for each designer and after that I put what store they are currently in
eg. Little Butterfly Wings-TLP

I also have a store folder but that is for store collabs, so I have a TLP folder and We Are Storytellers, Currently and my M3 kits are all in there.

I organize by store then designer. If they change stores, I just have to chang the file name to the store initials.

I can search based on what the item is called, so I don't tag. I just search for button, and scroll... or striped paper. Most of the time, I'm a kit scrapper though, so I stick to the kit.

Here is mine in iPhoto...

I use ACDSee to organize my supplies. Everything is in one main folder: Digital Supplies. Under the main folder, I have a folder for each designer with each kit in a subfolder under the designer. I tag as soon as I unzip my downloads. I give the shop a color label. So if I'm making a layout for TLP, I can bring up the color red and the specific item I'm looking for (i.e. ribbon) or I can just go to a designer's folder and see all her kits. It works for me. The key I believe is to get an automatic workflow that is consistent. I have made it a habit to not use the kit until it is tagged and stored into a folder under the appropriate designer.

I have a folder for each store and then each kit gets it's own folder under there. I don't create a folder for each designer because the way the kit folders are named with the designer name first, they are all grouped together nicely. BYOC each month and DYD, etc each gets its own folder too with subfolder inside. My TLP folder is giant but I still never have any trouble finding what I need.

I used to organize by store name but then I always had the problem of people switching stores and now I don't really visit other stores much. Now, I organize by designer name. They each have their own folder. I do have a folder for BYOC and Memory Pockets Monthly. That way I have all the coordinating things in one spot.

I have each kit in a folder Kit Name, Designer Name. I tag themes and BYOCs and such so they can be found that way, and use smart collections (saved searches) for stores. e.g. When I click on "the Lilypad" it automatically searches for all products by each designer here. I edit the search terms when a designer moves.

I keep by year then by TLP then by kit name. I rarely go back to previous years unless there is something specific I need (love that "already purchased" feature in the store!). The big exception is BYOCs and DYDs, which I group by year-month and I precede my BYOC and TLP folders with a tilde (~) to force them to sort at the beginning of my folders list. I love the freedom of scrapping from a particular BYOC and having all the coordinating products right at my fingertips from which to choose.

I half-heartedly tag templates, but most of the templates i use are by certain designers, so i just go to their folders. I don't tag by item....it would take way too long, and someone pointed out that most items have an identifiable word in the file name anyway, so i will search through file names (bow/ribbon/glitter/spray/etc.).

That said, I DO keyword BYOC months together so I can always work from a color palette if I find a kit I like. And this way they can live in their respective designer folders, but i can find everything from one month in just a click or two.

You ladies have a neat and easy workflow! But what do you do when you have kits from designers that are not naming their kits? I have several from a lot of my former ct-designers who name the goodies element 1, element 2, etc...
That's why I started placing things in an appropriate folder like buttons, doodles, frames, etc...

I would really like to work the way you do, but have some troubles with the fact that I have worked one way and don't know how to get to 1 way of organizing. Unless I would delete everything, but my heart would break permanently to do that...

On my Hard drive [F] I have a folder called
Digi Stufff [very creative, I know, LOL]- I've gone back and forth with store next or designer next.
I use a different icon to indicate Favorite Designers. I have another called: old, random, retired
Most of it, is Store > Designer> folder per kit.
I use ACDSee to tag/catalog. My categories have changed over time...I now place more of the kits by theme. It would be great if I was caught up, but that won't happen.

ps- I've kept some designers in the store folder they used to sell at because I couldn't bring myself to moving them.
