,,,is your computer area?

ok, ok, I know you guys are decent folk and keep your desk clean, what I want to know is a bit deeper..... how often do you move the desk and clean all the cables, that kind of stuff?

Our place is terribly dusty, so I use wet wipes -as I can't move to go rinse cloth , cam hardly stand up these days :( - I gi9ve a go around the EHDs , the router and the Macs and, of course, my desk, as it gets dusty even in 10 hours, but we decided to move the desk with Sarita today to finally un-box our new printer....and that is going to be quiet an enterprise, to clean the myriad opf cables, the extensions, behind the desk, the back of the drawers thingy....all those things that are usually out of sight......we will do it on Saturday now I am feeling a bit better....

so, I m curious/need some guidance..... is it terrible to let it go for a month? how often do you clean all that stuff?

I'm a freak. I live in the desert, like powder dust. My desk I polish daily. Screens each morning, and vacuum weekly the floor and puter. Seriously, the fan in my cpu will stop if I dont. It is crazy this desert. I mop (tile) 2 times a week. My office is my oasis, and I love it clean. Now don't ask about my bathroom, I put low wattage bulbs in and squint. Lol

In the fall and spring when we have the doors open, I'll end up doing the computer screens more often, and the CPU too. Right now? Every 2 weeks is good enough for me. Because of the computer being downstairs now, the cords get swept around 2 or 3 times a week since I do it with the kitchen floors.

LOL Anne you are the best kind of freak I know!!!! I used to do that in Brazil, it is the sea side, even though we weren't exactly on the beach, there were no tarmac roads, so the floors I would mop 2 times a day, and the computer was in our restaurant so I had the cleaner and the waiters who did that, but at home I would clean up a lot...now this is London, and still the dust drives me bananas.... I do clean the screens , the Mac doesn't have a CPU, the whole computer is in the screen , I clean that sometimes twice a day, but this are the parts I can reach from my bed or vaguely standing up... for us to clean up the cables and the switches, I need someone else, because we need to move my desk that is heavy.... so I am trying to organize for the girl who is coming to cover my carer who is having surgery.... one of the things that drives me insane about the state of my health is not being able to clean up my house myself..... nobody ever does it like one self ....

every two weeks I think suits me good.... as I mentioned to Anne, we need to move the desk, so isn;t something I can do from my bed LOL I was starting to move a bit more as my blood pressure got better, but had a horrible week thios past one...trying to get back into the swing of things :)

You don't want to know. I am a terrible cleaner. I can't stand messy, but I am ok with dust. Which is a good thing as we have dust bunnies all over. Our building is so dusty, it is incredible.
I once bought a decorative tile in the US which says "Our house is protected by killer dust bunnies" which I thought was cute at the time but it turned out to be oh so true.

That being said, I was at a fire hazard workshop just this week and the guy put the fear of God into all of us. Basically we all wanted to up and go home AT ONCE and remove some plugs from sockets, :). So now a serious checking (and cleaning while we're at it) of all the cable salad is in order.

my craft area is so cluttered it probably gets a proper clean once or twice a year. Although the high shelves and behind the heavy storage boxes might have been more than a year ago now.

Until last week, very rarely. I couldn't get to the cords behind the desk. I would dust the top of the CPU every few months but had a hard time cleaning the back and one side of it.

Last week I had to empty out my office of everything in it. 25+ year old carpet was being torn out and new flooring put in. So I had to tear the computer down. I emptied out the desk I've had for over 20 years along with 2 2-drawer filing cabinets. Purged some stuff during the process. Floor was put in last Friday.

I am getting rid of the desk, printer stand and chair. So for the time being, I am using a double card table for my desk. I have the CPU sitting on top of a 2-drawer filing cabinet where I can get to the back of it. I can also get to the cords if I need to. I will be getting a new desk but I'm looking at something that is not as big and bulky as what I had. But, for now, I am liking my setup. My 2 monitors are actually right next to each other and I love it! Couldn't do that on the old desk.

I have not put much back into the room yet either. Only the few things I use daily. Once I get new furniture, I will start putting stuff back and could quite possibly get rid of more stuff. Until then, I don't have a guest bedroom... it is filled with stuff from the office which includes traditional scrapping supplies! Probably should use those up :)

I live on a main street, pollution reigns supreme... most cables are where we can see them so they get a wipe, when the floors get done. The spaghetti junction behind the tv is an other matter, every time I do that something gets loose ,and don't work properly after,so it gets left,my wiring is now grey,black.... ugh. By the way does anyone have a good remedy cleaning flat screen's of car exhaust and sticky dust. It is very humid here so stuff sticks.

I’m like you Cynthia @MrsPeel I use baby wipes probaby once a week on the desk, It's down under the table, on the skirting boards that you can see a multitude of sins. With my back that never gets cleaned ooops pretty gross really (better get the hubster onto that). I do use a disinfectant spray on my Mac screen every week, does that balance it out? :)

I have a laptop that I use on my lap. However, I have to brush the dog hairs and the popcorn salt off at least once a day from the keyboard and screen. I would not trade the dog company or the popcorn for the bother...

I used to be crazy cleaning lady. Now I have a cleaning lady twice a month. So, no, I don't crawl around and clean my cords anymore (I used to). I can't stand for my laptop keys or screen to be dirty though. I clean them regularly.

We are total neat freaks - thank goodness we're very alike in that sense, or we'd be driving each other nuts. But I have dust sensitivities too, so if we don't manage the dust, I have allergy issues. At work, I typically clear my desk and wipe stuff down every couple of months, but I'm constantly cleaning and picking up there too.

Oh Dear do I really have to admit to not dusting!!! I usually sit with my laptop on my recliner -- so no cables here. I go to my desk when I want two monitors and I dust it occassionally!

I don't have a desk or a bunch of cables or a monitor. I don't even have a mouse.

It's just my laptop with its one power adapter on my lap in bed. :)
