Homework?

I've taught kindergarten and that nightly load is absolutely, 100% ridiculous. Please let us know what the teacher says when you talk to her.

Here are some of my thoughts...
Do you know what the kinder standards are at your school? Take a look and see where Kennedy is. Kids learn developmentally and kindergarten is drifting far from that. We could get into a huge long discussion on that, but let's save that for later!!

If Kennedy is where he needs to be then nightly reading and some fun math games are all he needs. Keep it fun with you reading to him. Have him read those little sight word books and simple books with CVC words (cat, mat, pan, etc) that he may bring home from school. Maybe use flash cards if he doesn't know all his letters. He should just about know all of his sounds. Number-wise, they might be getting into the teens now.

Like Anne says 20 minutes is it. That extra stuff is fine, only if it's stuff that he wants to do. If he's not outside playing, or coloring, or building with legos or something, then those computer games are a great alternative to just plain computer games.

13 years until HS graduation is an absolute marathon. This sprint in kinder is going to backfire in a big way.
