So… the more kids we add the less funds there are to spend on all the Christmas gifts we need to buy for people. I have been thinking for years about homemade Christmas gifts but I never get an early enough start. So today I am asking for you to share your ideas if you do this. I have been pinning stuff on Pinterest but would love to hear if you have a favorite homemade item that you do. Links to tutorials would be great also. Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for ideas for teachers/co-workers/friends/grandparents/family? I guess I am looking for the group of people you are looking for ideas for.

I have had some cute little teacher gifts given to me, but I would love to hear everyone else's ideas too!

More family type gifts, I guess. Just trying to get ideas for any type gift really. The budget is a lot smaller than the Christmas list for all the people we have to buy for. I just wondered if any one did home made gifts and what kind?

I've tried to do this over the years, sometimes it works and others I'm too overwhelmed to get any done!

One year, my brother and I made jewelry hangers. We bought some scrap wood and some cool knobs at the habitat for humanity restore. He cut the boards (18-24 inches maybe) and painted them black, distressed them and then installed 5 of the knobs across. I used some rub-on white swirly decals from my scrapbook stash to accentuate the corners. We gave them to all the "girls". The boys got the same, but painted red or blue to hang hats on.

Another year I put together family game night baskets. I bought super cheap huge popcorn bowls, made several types of flavored popcorn and bagged them up, added a board game and done.

One year was homemade mittens from felted sweaters I found at Goodwill. Make sure they are 100% wool, and wash in hot water. Use the felted wool, cut out mitten shapes and sew inside out. Then I used the ends of the sleeves to finish off the bottoms.

For the little girls (it's always easier for the girls) I made wacky flip flops. Take those $2 flip flops from Hobby Lobby and go to the yarn section and find the wackiest fluffiest fiber/yarn you can find. A little hot glue and wrap the straps with the fiber.

For the boys, my dad made marshmallow shooters out of cheap PVC pipe.

Food is always good. I've made crockpot cinnamon almonds that were amazing (smell like the ones in the mall), I've canned jams and jelly, those mixes in a jar are fun too.

I should be thinking of this years, but nothing has inspired me yet!

Homemade candles are super easy and a little bit goes a long ways ... I started making them as gifts a few years ago and now make them for profit ... tons of tutorials on the internet and now, Amazon sells a lot of candle making supplies at reasonable prices.

every year my mom gives homemade jam with new washcloths she knits for the year.

What about some type of Christmas decoration?

from my sister in law I know our family will be getting pumpkin bread.

Another sister in law. Her family draws names and that is part of the game is it has to be a hand crafted gift.

Those are so pretty Amy. I would love to receive something like that!

I have done needle felting gifts ... flower brooches and eyeglass cases/holders. Things like that.

I forget if it was last year or the year before, my daughter ... so 10 or 11 yrs old, made homemade gifts for everyone. She sewed felt coasters, decorated candles, made magnets, felt book marks .... for everyone. It was really cute and she did it all by herself. We used Pinterest to make a board of ideas for her and then she went to work on it ...
