my son is 6 months old. He's been really cranky for the past few days. I checked his mouth to see if he's teething and guess what....i see a tiny tooth coming out. On top of teething, he has bad cold so he gets congested and wakes up every half an hour. At night he's been waking up every hour. :hissy

I'm sleep deprived and very tired. :hairpol Does anyone have any good tips/remedy? I called his doctor but she basically says, you have to wait it out.

Thanks ladies.

Oh yuck! I can remember those days. Although it seems like so long ago, my son is 5 now. We always would put ambesol on his gums and give him a teething ring. As for the cold, not much to do about that either at this age. Are you running a humidifier? I hope he gets to feeling better soon so you can get some rest!

Teething is so hard on you and baby! Personally, I swear by Hyland's Teething tablets. They are homepathic, safe for infants and work like a charm. For my youngest, every tooth was an agony until I found the Hyland's! They help tremendously! Good luck, hope you find something that works.

Oh sweetie, I know the feeling! And he must just be miserable, poor little thing. :( I would give him a little Tylenol or Motrin (now that he's 6 months) for the teeth, and it'll probably help his head too in case his head hurts from being so stuffy. Like Lisa said I would run a humidifier in his room, and maybe also try having him sleep in his car seat if he will. My Noah (4 months) is getting over a cold too, and I just put the car seat into his crib and have been having him sleep in that, since he wouldn't sleep laying flat, he was just too congested! Also saline drops in his nose will help break up some of that congestion, and you can give that to him a billion times a day if you need to (I use the Little Noses brand, but I think most places have a store brand). I think it's 6 months that you can start giving a little benedryl too if you need to, that might dry his sinuses up a little bit when he's sleeping. I had to give my older son benedryl starting at about 8 months or so because he had horrible allergies.

If none of that helps, he might have some kind of infection (sinus or ear) so I would call the Ped. :( Poor guy! I hope you can get some rest soon, there's nothing like a baby that won't sleep to drive you absolutely INSANE! (((Jenna)))

Oh yes, Hyland's were great for teeth! They have them at Target, but at my Target I have to ask the Pharmacist for them because they keep them behind the counter for some reason. They aren't prescription or anything though. I hope something helps soon! :(

we found these teething tablets that you could put in their mouth and kind of rub on their gums (since they pretty much started dissolving once they got wet)...they are all natural and seemed to help somewhat.
I am so sorry, it is hard when they are fussy like that and in pain!

ETA: I started replying and then had to leave...I see I am not the only one who liked Hylands!

What a great post!! Tyson is 11 months old and getting his first teeth (the top two... weird huh) anyways he has been SO SO SO Cranky! He was up every half hour last night and today the one is poking through mostly and the other is so close. Ive been alternating between tylonal and motrin, also hylands teething tablets and orajel... and an amber necklace thats supposed to help. I find that after the orajel he calms down the most until it wears off of course :( I cant wait till the teeth are in!

We always used Baby Orajel. It always worked like a charm for us. But when it didn't we used Tylenol. Since he has a cold and is getting conjested, you can try propping up his bed mattress, so his head is a little higher than his feet.

HTH

6 mo old?
do you give him tylenol?
and about the congestion and stuffy nose
try saline and a bulb syringe.
they HATE it but it really helps.
i've used baby oragel as well and it works
but never lasts very long.

during his wakeful hours
how about lettin him suck on a popsicle.

what?! didn't EVERY one give their kids popsicles at 6 months?!

LOL

OH MY GOSH!!!!!
i can't BELIEVE i forgot about my MIRACLE pills...
(it's been a LOOOOONG time since i've had a baby in my home. LOL)

HUMPHRIES..............
little tiny homeopathic pills.
they dissolve in a tiny amt of water
but at six months old i just placed it in my babies
mouth and it's sweet so after a few seconds they'd
dissolve on their own.

i LOVED those....
they are for teething and soothing
and supposedly help your child calm down and sleep.

you ask for them at walgreens
and it's a tiny bottle FULL for only a couple bucks.

miracle pills i tell ya!!

-and i gave them TO ALL my kids....
at ALL ages...
they looooved them.
and i SWEAR after bath they'd each have 3-4
and evenings were so much calmer.

i'll see if i can find more info online.

I just have to plug the teething tablets as well...I think we used Hylands (DS is 15 months and has most of his teeth now). They work well and are totally safe. I hope he cuts that tooth soon Jenna, teething is so hard, for babies and their mommas. ((hug))

Thank you all so much for your advice and kind words. I'll pick up the teething tablets when i pick dd up from school. He's taking a nap right now. Let see how long it lasts. I give him the teething ring but after couple of minutes, he just throws it away. I really hope the tooth cuts soon. He and I are both miserable at the moment.

I don't think we have those homeopathic ones here...though there is a homeopathic liquid. I used it a bit but couldn't see a noticeable difference.

DS2 couldn't have any of the gels as they made him vomit so I just used panadol/tylenol for him and luckily he wasn't too bad.

Hugs Jenna and I hope you find something that works soon.

yeah. every time my kids gets a bit of teething going on i think back to when i had braces. nurofen and bonjella hit the spot.

and congestion...have you tried eucalyptus oil in an oil burner? or vicks? and i can vouch for the saline drops too.

and cuddles. cuddles seem to work.

Sounds like you got some really great advice here. I hope you both get some relief soon!

oh we gave my daughter a frozen bag of peas which she liked gumming on... we also had a teething ring that went into the freezer it worked well for us

Oh no your poor little guy. Hope he is feeling better soon.

We also used the Hylands teething tablets too...boy does that bring me back.

Another thing we used was the Baby Safe Feeder. http://www.amazon.com/Designs-2-U-Baby-Safe-Feeder/dp/B00074FY9Q I can't remember when we started using it, but we would put frozen mango in it and my kiddos would gnaw on it. You can use ice as well if you feel like your little guy isn't old enough for mango. It makes a mess so it is definitely a high chair/bib thing.
