Help with creating a siggie?

I want to make a cool sig like so many of you have but have NO idea how......help! dimensions? Is that all I need to know? How do I put links in it? aaaah!

You can just make one image, linked or not, or you can split it into multiple images (as shown in the above thread) and link each image to something different.
