anyone know any sites that can help me assist my 10 year old in this subject,im trying but maths is not my strong point so am getting confused

there's this:

cent means 100.. lik ein the word CENTURY

10 out of a hundred means ten PERCENT
so anything over a hundred is a percent.
50 over 100.... 50 percent.
12/100 = 12 percent

you have to change the fraction into hundredths.

1/4.... equals how many hundredths?
1/4 = x/100

25.

so 1/4 is equal to 25 percent.

since the first two place values of a decimal are the TENTHS and the HUNDREDS place... if you just do the division....

3/8= what percent?

three divided by 8 on a calculator is .375,
so 3/8ths is 37.5 percent.

4/9 = what percent?

4 divided by nine on my calculator says... .4444444

so 4/9 is 44.4 percent.

one last thing you should know is the formula....

if i said 3 is what percent of 300...

i would write 3 = n/100 x 100

if i said what is 50 percent of 15?
i would write... N=50/100 x 15

Thanks I'll have a look at that site I need to turn the fractions into percents oh and we can't use a calculatorcso that's where ibget confused cause I'm ok when the numbers are whole

You have to change the fraction so that the denominator is 100, then the top number gives you the percentage then. Good luck!

I'm not looking forward to when my boys start getting into math in their homework. Always loved grammar but not math and we have a computer to do all our calcs these days so I'll be in your boat too Karen! My old brain hasn't calculated fractions and percentages for over 30 years! Good luck :)
