We spent 10 days and could have spent much more time. Loved Ireland! You will not be disappointed staying near the Dingle Penninusula, there is just SO MUCH TO SEE there. Please, please visit Cashel. It was our favorite place in Ireland and had our bio baby been a boy, she'd be named Cashel today. 
I also highly recommend Newgrange for the historical fun. Fantastic. And visit every high cross and ruin you can see. We visited the town The Quite Man was filmed for the MIL (I still haven't seen it) and I wish the Cliffs of Moor (sp?) and the Burren weren't so windy the days we were there, it was nearly impossible to enjoy. We found it was BEAUTIFUL in the mornings and rainy in the afternoons, so we planned indoor and outdoor excursions accordingly. Finally, oddly enough, we never found authentic Irish music in any pubs... but we did fine Neil Diamond karaoke night! 
If you don't rent a house, B&Bs are the way to go! The owners all know one another and set you up fabulously for the next leg of your trip!

PS The people are simply AMAZING! We were driving through a little town and stopped at a light. Hubby pulled a map out and the car in front of us immediately put the car in park and approached our car to ask if we need directions anywhere. SO awesome!

right, I have not read all the posts, so maybe am repeating what everyone has said, Ireland is beautiful from one end to another, people are amazing and very funnny, super friendly and we had an amazing time (in the very early 90s)
I see that you mentioned you ve been to England, but if you ever happened to come back and come over to London, I will be more than happy to take provisions to be able to drive, take you on a trip of the non tourist, most amazing photo places in North West London, we live in the highest part of the city, in some areas you can even forget you are in London ...
but anyway, enjoy, great trip!!!!
