Have you ever seen this or tasted this fruit?

Never seen or ate it Lily but I am curious and would love to know what it tastes like! What is it called?
 
It's called durian.. The yellow thingy you see is the flesh of the fruit.. hmm .. Asians love the smell and taste of it.. However, westerners find it the smell intolerable (many of them claim it stinks and it taste yucky!!) .. The odour is so strong that it is PROHIBITED in the aircraft or any hotels... LOL!! The skin of a durian are all thorns and it's *****ly!! Once a durian is ripe, it will just fall of from the tree.. When I was younger I asked my mum, can a durian fall on my head if I visited a durian orchard.. She said durians has eyes and it will not just drop on anyone's head!! ( it's a myth!!! ) But I really have not heard of anyone getting their head injured because of durian!!

It's called the KING OF FRUITS in asia!! If you ever dropby Malaysia or anywhere in southeast asia .. do try!! LOL!!
 
Just seeing it makes me gag. {no offense, lol}

I have eaten it twice in the last ten years, and if I never eat it again, I'm good. It's the fruit that keeps on giving...I burped it up for 2 days the last time.
 
DD read about them in one of her studies and has been wanting to try it ever since. That's all I heard about for a week or so. She's absolutely fascinated by the fruit...she even went on to do more research about it.
 
My SIL is a raw-foodie and she eats Durian. The rest of her family complains, because the smell can be so overpowering that it blocks out the taste (like a rich custard with almonds and onions?), but I guess it depends on the variety you get.

From wikipedia: The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine, and gym socks. ...Other comparisons have been made with the civet, sewage, stale vomit, skunk spray and used surgical swabs.

It's pretty subjective.

That's the thing Heather!! It smells yummilicious to me!! I LOVE IT!! lol!! I wouldn't even mind if a bottle of perfume smells like durian... I know!! I know!! I am crazy in love with durians!!

it's a seasonal fruit.. but this year, I'm lucky .. instead of once a year it bears fruit, it's twice this year..
 
It looks like a bug but I have eaten my own cooking so it probally tastes better than that LOL
 
sorry LiLi I've eaten a lot of tropical fruit in my day (lived in PNG for 2 years) but that is ONE fruit that I can happily pass by .... give me some yummy lychees or five fingers any day over that stinky mess of fruit LOL
 
It just looks really weird....but now I feel like I need to smell it just to know what you're talking about..lol!
