Today is a homemade holiday in my family. Since I was adopted on February 28, we claim today as the day we all GOTcha each other. Growing up we would exchange small gifts by placing them in bags that we had each decorated ourselves. Always we would eat dinner together and sometimes if it fell on a weekend, we would have a big party that extended "family" (if you were a friend of the Harbridges, you were family!) attended.

Anyone else here adopted or have adopted children?

I have 7 adopted kids!!! We have never done the gotcha day...but I do love how your family celebrates the day! way cool!

What a wonderful tradition. Our second (of three) daughters is adopted. She came to us when she was only 6 days old and we have always just celebrated birthdays. I love the idea of your gotcha day.

Molly I love that idea. My friend celebrates the day she brought her children home as well, they love the tradition and said it always made them feel that little bit special, I believe she call it Homecoming Day. Both her children are adults but she still wishes them Happy Homecoming and sends a little card/message.

that is such an amazing thing!!!! so congrats on your very special day!!!!

I have friends that have adopted and celebrated that. My cousin is adopted and I don't remember a Gotcha day celebration as it was only a day or two after she was born that they brought her home so to my knowledge it was always just her birthday celebrated. It is definitely something nice to celebrate to all that do :)

What a fun tradition! We have three adopted kids but always celebrated their birthdays.

I love this idea, it must have made everyone feel really special and connected to one and other.
I hope you all had a fun day!

What a special way to celebrate the day! I love this!

I personally don't have any "chosen" children but have had students who celebrated Gotcha Days. It is special.

We have three adopted children. We will be celebrating two years this April with the twins and 1 year this June with our Noah. We haven't officially done anything big yet, but we do remind them it's our special day and we talk about what it means and read our adoption book together.
