Just curious what everyone's Halloween plans are for this year :)
Are you trick-or-treating?
Trunk-or-treating?
Already done this weekend or going tomorrow?
Just handing out candy?
Turning off the porch light and hiding? :giggle
Also, do you get many trick-or-treaters at your house?

I'm not sure about mine yet. If the grandbabies don't come here to trick-or-treat, I'll probably turn off the light and hide lol. I have walked this neighborhood trick-or-treating for 30+ years so it might be nice to take a break haha. We live in a subdivision that is pretty busy on Halloween night, but our house is in the very back at the bottom of a hill and I think people just don't want to walk back out of here. My sister lives on the other side of the subdivision and gets 200+ every year, we might get 5 tops.

I think we are in the lights-off-and-hiding camp too. For the last few years we have had 4 or five trick or treaters and that included the two grandkids! I bought candy bars for them although they said they aren’t going out. It’s also supposed to be cold and rainy. We used to live in a neighborhood where there were hundreds of kids every year and I kind of miss it.

Enjoy hiding Jan and Carol! ;)

We’re trick-or-treating my brother’s neighborhood with all the cousins on my side of the family then going to see a Jurassic World themed house. It should be fun!

We get a lot of trick-or-treaters at our house so we’ll probably leave a candy bucket on the porch. We have a porch camera so it’s always fun to see which kid steals the entire bucket haha

we also do lights off. LOL.
our neighborhood is HUGE! and we're toward the end of a side street that dead ends. so we're not super traveled, and the kids are definitely NOT going to be short on candy if we aren't handing out! So we watch movies and hang out in the basement. Also, usually we do something like chili or some other yummy comfort soup for dinner...leaves room for movie popcorn!

I'll be handing out candy to the kids, unless my son wants to do it. He's been wanting to for a while now, so that will just free me up to wander the neighborhood to visit the neighbors. It'll be hard to say how many we'll have, but pre-shutdown we would average around 200. We live in a quiet, well-let cul-de-sac that parents will drive their kids to visit. It's kinda nice to be known as a "safe place", ya know?

I haven't even decided what I'm doing yet. It's weird that my city is doing TOT on a Monday night. They should have just done it this weekend in my opinion. I don't have any candy yet, so if I'm going to hand it out, I guess i better go get some. :giggle My hubby is going to be gone and the one kid I have left at home doesn't care at all about helping me hand it out. We only get about 30 kids total anyway.

It was Thursday night in my county. Every town does it at the same time to keep from car loads being dropped in towns from other cities. That happened all the time when I was a kid but over the years the city governments got wise and got together. It is always the last Thursday of the month.

As for me, I don't even turn off the lights and hide anymore. I just don't turn my porch light on.

It's not set in stone yet. Munchkin has invited friends over, so we'll grab a few pizzas to feed them. I hope they show up! Then they will go around the neighborhood while *in the air* walks the dog at a happy pre-teen distance.

*in the air*. Nick will for sure. I'd like to go too, so it depends on whether Sharon will hand out the chips or not. If not, I'm on hand out duty. Our house is weird, we are right next to the school, and we have a lot of trick or treaters all around us. But, we don't have a sidewalk on our side, so last year a lot of kids skipped us. We've planned a lot, just in case. But they are all chips we like if we only get a few!

I've always bought tons of candy thinking we were going to be over run with kids and it's never happened. I'd love it if it was a little busier...I really enjoy seeing all the costumes :)

Oooh I bet the Jurassic World themed house is so cool!! If we end up going out, I may leave a bucket on the porch. That would be fun to watch on camera. Mine might be a little blank though lol

Sounds like a really fun night! I wish I'd planned for some yummy comfort food!

Yep, we have lots that come to our subdivision from other parts of town. It is nice to be know as a safe place. I do enjoy wandering the neighborhood and visiting neighbors from time to time, I just wish it was a little more flat hahaha.

I don't have any candy yet either. I guess I'll be stopping on my way home tomorrow if I decide not to hide lol. I think every store, mall, and church around here have been doing trunk-or-treats all weekend, then trick-or-treating tomorrow night. These kids are gonna be all sugared up!

It was Thursday night in my county. Every town does it at the same time to keep from car loads being dropped in towns from other cities. That happened all the time when I was a kid but over the years the city governments got wise and got together. It is always the last Thursday of the month.

So interesting that they do it on Thursday. I always liked Halloween best on the weekends so that I had more time to get my kids ready after school.

I do the same...always buy things I know we will like just in case we don't have very many! Sounds like a fun night!! The pizzas are a great idea. Wish I had thought of that years ago when I had bunches of kids here getting ready to go out.

I've got candy ready! We usually hang at a neighbors house, but it's so much better on a weekend, lol! I put a sign up where we are and to tell people to come visit, lol !Monday halloween... boo, haha! So, I don't know if we will hang out or just chill at home. Pup goes out in the backyard or in my will have to roam the bedrooms so he doesn't scare off all the kids. Or maybe we will take him for a walk.

I don't know if my kids will go out. I kinda hope they will, they did last year... but they are getting older (17/14), and I was surprised last year, haha!

Turning off the porch light and hiding? This. Although I'm not really hiding, porch light off, no decorations, and I don't normally get very many kids.

I did make my grandson (17) a "Boo" bucket full of his favorite candies (including candy corn), a couple of Halloween themed Matchbox cars, two PEZ dispensers b/c they were both cute, and a bag of pizza flavored Combos b/c I happened to see them.

That's so weird! Why Thursday? Why not Friday? Give the teachers a break :whistle:giggle

Um.... football games on Friday. And, they wanted to stay away from the weekends altogether.

The town Halloween parade is also on a Thursday, the week before T or T.

Edit to add that when T or T was on the 31st, there were always complaints because it would interfere with other activities for kids or their parents. Like Wednesday is the night all the churches have choir rehearsals. Mondays at 4:30 started the junior varsity and freshman football games which would last until around 7. Sunday afternoon is midget football. And, Saturday was not acceptable to most of the dads because that was the day they did all their lawn work and other things around the house followed by college football. It seemed that Thursday was the one evening that was most acceptable to all. And, now everyone knows that T or T will be on the last Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. no matter where you live in the county. The 60's/70's might be the last that T or T was held on the 31st. I'm thinking it changed in the 80's, I know mom was still alive when they did it and she's been gone since 1996.

Gotcha! Our activities cancel for trick or treat. Like Matthew normally has basketball practice, but not tonight. The high school doesn't, but most of them aren't trick or treating anyway.

This is SO me! ;)

If only the window in front isn't where I put our tree I would TOTALLY do this! We are planning on lights out & hiding in the basement to watch movies. The kids are older & typically go do stuff with their friends. We get a lot of trick or treaters usually, but haven't handed out candy the last couple years. We have a new puppy too- so I'm not sure I want to be yelling at him to have good door manners all night long for trick or treaters!

We have a good neighborhood for trick or treating. My kids always got a lot of candy without even walking all the streets. But now they're ages 16 - 21 and haven't trick or treated since 2019. They had a party on Saturday. I would be fine with just keeping the porch light off and doing my usual resting and watching videos that I do on weekday evenings -- and that's what I'll be doing -- but my husband wants to hand out candy and will be doing that.

Yeah, that's understandable as well. But all the football activities are scheduled by the league. The schools have no say in cancelling for something like Trick or Treat and if they tried, the league could deny it because of another school being involved. It honestly works very well to have it on a Thursday night throughout the county. I think several of the surrounding counties do the same thing.

I am in the lights off and hiding camp. In all the years I've lived here, trick or treaters have been rare so I gave up years ago. Then this year, I pull up in the driveway and shortly have someone hitting me up for candy. I gave away the little bit of candy I'd bought for David and I. Next year, I am getting candy and will be prepared.

Not a huge fan of Halloween...mainly the scary stuff. I have a few kids who DO NOT like anything remotely scary. And we live in a rural place in the mountains and never get any kids.

I do let my kids dress up and this year the dance studio my girls go to is doing an afternoon trick-or-treat. So I took them up there to get candy from their teachers. On Saturday night my sisters' church was doing a trunk or treat so my one kid who was over this crazy sickness that's been going around our house went with her. He hadn't been out in almost 2 weeks. He was so excited.

Tonight we are watching videos about the Reformation (also Reformation Day if anyone is interested - LOL!) and watching Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin.
