----to camp this weekend! So excited!!! Now mind you, I said "weekend" but if you could see my kitchen floor right now, you would think I was leaving for a month!!!! I always pack WAY more than I need. I'm always thinking "I may need that!". I just finished blanching all my veggies so they will cook faster in the foil pocket meals I make. yum yum!!! I am trying a new one called Strawberry/Teriyaki Salmon. Who else does foil pockets when you camp and do you have a favorite recipe? AND, do you overpack???????? :cornfused

I overpack. It started as a kid when I packed enough batteries for my camera and Walkman for twice the trip, not to mention the books I packed! It got worse when the munchkin came along. After all, gotta have something to amuse him right?
I'd like to believe I'm getting better. I need to go somewhere to find out!

I don't camp in the usual sense, I use a cabin at the park. (I would camp but my husband doesn't). And I ALWAYS overpack. We used to do foil packets when Jim's parents (who have a camper) used to come and camp with us Those sound like good pocket meals. Have a fun weekend.

oh I am horrible camper. I am a hotel goer. lol
but we have made foil food packets in the back yard.
my parents are campers (they live most of their life in the RV) and my childhood is great and lots of camping. but now that I am grown up...I hotel! snort
but gosh Nancy, your excitement makes me happy....for you! ♥

I'm with Ann and Carilyne... I'm not a true camper. I like hotels or cabins! LOL!

Wait.... who doesn't overpack?! Is that a thing? Just kidding... I 90% of the time overpack.

Just finishing up 10 dozen cookies!!! WHEW!!! There will be a LOT of kids there, and they LOVE my cookies! Can't disappoint them! And----yes---I am STILL packing!!! I am SO looking forward to this weekend!!!

I over pack all the time. you just never know! gotta cover all of your bases, right, Nancy?! also, I don't camp. we go to a park at the coast that has spaces for tents, yurts to rent and also room for RVS, if that's your thing. we do the yurts and love them :) have a great time!! also, I'm expecting cookies from you soon, along with chocolates from @scrapsandsass :giggle

I'm an over packer when it comes to camping. You never know what you'll need.

I tend to be an under packer (is that the right term?) if it comes to normal vacay or family visits. I guess I feel like it's a hotel stay or visiting family I can always run up to the store and get what I need.

I was just away for a little beach time, not camping, and I totally overpacked. I know it's bad when my suitcase is 2x the size of anyone else I am traveling with. I'd rather be prepared though, then feel like I should have brought something.

I'm not a true camper either, but I have a "cabin" camping girls weekend coming up and we are bringing tubes for the river and bikes ... along with food, linens, towels, etc. I am freaking out with how much I already have on my list. I need an intervention!

I'm going with an avid camper though, and she coordinates and organizes it all for the rest of us. So I just do/bring what I'm told. The foil packets sound yummy! Last year we did those "S'mores in a Cone" things wrapped in foil and tossed in the campfire for the girls.

Good luck on your trip Nancy!

Oh how fun Nancy! I too am an overpacker when we camp. Especially since I have two boys and they are constantly getting dirty/wet. We always need the extra clothes. :giggle We only have two camping trips planned for this summer, one to Cedar Point and one near Traverse City (Michigan). I'm looking forward to both!

Jenn @jenn mccabe I need more info on these smores in a cone... I'm pretty sure I NEED to make those!

Well, you are just going to have to let me know when you will be in Traverse City. I just might pop in for a visit!!!!! LOVE TC in the summer!!!

here you go @Karen ... lots of ideas and recipes for how to make these. including adding fruit. cute for kids, and less messy than making the traditional ones

AARRGGHH!! And here I thought I was done shopping. Need to leave by noon, but I can see a short stop at the grocery store for waffle cones; fortunately I have everything else!!! Thanks so much for the recipe!!

I have to get

I need to get some equipment first! :)

I cook large diced chunks of potato, green beans, mushrooms, peppers and onion in tinfoil packs with olive oil, seasoned salt, a sprinkle of celery salt and hot pepper flakes.

I love cooking with foil packs. I love camping. My avatar is from camping. I generally do not overpack. I pack exactly what is needed with 1 or 2 extra outfits, extra underwear, & extra socks for the kids. Have fun, I'm so excited for you! Now I want cookies.

I grew up camping! But my hubby is not a camper so I have not been in 30 years. As a child I loved making those pies over the fire.... where you put the bread in the (what do you call it?) tool, and put what fillers you want between the breads. I loved the pizza ones!

Always overpack for camping, two nights is my maximum and I have a preference for driving distance to a town so we can have a pub meal at least one night - yep really roughing it!

I really, really prefer hotels in the middle of which ever town we are staying in, we camp for my husband and the kids enjoy it if we go with other families.
