I just recently updated my iPhone 4 to the latest software (5.0.1) and noticed that when you are on the lock screen (before you enter in a password to get into your phone, or maybe before you swipe it to unlock it with out the password), if you double click the home button... it brings up the camera app- so NOW it doesn't take a bazillion steps to get into your camera app when you need it quickly. I'm loving that! :happydance Just a little tip for those iPhone gurus like me :D

you can also snap a photo with the + volume button

(or you can use the shutter button to raise the volume :giggle)

Great tip...I miss so many shots of my little monsters trying to get my phone unlocked and the camera open!
 
I've been able to do that since 5.0. At any rate, it is an AWESOME feature. I missed so many shots before. And you reminded me that I need to update :)
 
I love that new update, super handy with little ones! now if someone could add an update that prevents my 21-month old from running for the phone every time he sees it instead of continuing to do whatever cute thing it is I'm trying to capture with it!

Very cool tip!! Thanks, I passed it on to DH! I know he missed a couple photo ops because of the time it took to get to the camera app, so this will help!
 
Thanks for the tip about using the volume up button as a shutter, Heather! Very handy for self portraits of my girls & I.
