One of my teenagers had one a couple of years ago. First we tried over the counter stuff, which did nothing. Then the pediatrician tried the method of freezing it and removing it gradually. After a few sessions, we could tell that its growth had slowed but it was still growing. Next step was a podiatrist. He said that although we could try other things, he felt we'd eventually have to go the surgical removal path. On his recommendation we went straight to that. It ended up being relatively quick and painless. (Although the freezing treatment at the pediatrician hadn't stopped the wart from growing, it did result in a more surface-level wart which made removal easier.) The podiatrist did it in his office, and my son was back at school the next day (with some activity limitations for a week, maybe 2). This is a child who doesn't handle pain or discomfort well, and he never complained. He was careful for longer than he needed to be because he was worried it would start hurting, but the anticipation was worse than the reality.
