It's been 6 months since this year started...What has been the best part?

For me, I think the last month has been great (minus the concussion). We're vaccinated...moving towards being able to go out without a mask....school ended....and I'm ready for some SUMMER! YAY!

Getting Remi and watching her thrive these past few months has been the best part of 2021 so far. Hubs gets his 2nd vaccine in 2 wks and I should be getting the notice to book mine in about a month. I'm looking forward to seeing family, especially our great granddaughter who is one and we only saw her once before COVID restrictions.

Number 1 has been finishing the process of getting complete dental implants. It's been a long road to get here and now I have the implants (and a smile I'm not ashamed of!) and can eat anything I want.

Number 2 was getting both doses of the vaccine. First one helped lift my spirits and the second one just lifted a weight off of my shoulders especially with the end of the implant process being so close. Now I can actually live life like I always wanted to when I retired.

And, the day I got my final implants I stopped to see a cousin on my way home. Do you know how good it was to actually hug her... more than once! She's older than me and has a DH with health issues so she's been very careful about who she sees during all of this. Even her daughter-in-law would not come to see her the first 6 months. Kim is a doctor and dealt with COVID on a daily basis. Becky even said that when she did start coming over (lives a couple hours away), she would always wear her mask, they had to be outside and she would not even eat with them because that would mean taking the mask off. But once she was vaccinated and Becky/her DH were vaccinated, they celebrated.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I got to watch a cousin's son play college football this spring. His small school postponed their season to March and they streamed their games online. My cousin let me know and for the last game we had a group text going during the game. Dad, his brother in FL, his sister in SE Ohio and me all chatting about the game. Loved it!

So I'm joyful that things are looking better for all my loved ones and hope that I can actually see some of them in the year 2021. Doesn't help they live far away though!

Vaccination! Everyone here has had at least a first dose, and by the end of June we'll all be fully vaccinated. Another highlight of 2021 so far has been my kids going back to in-person school in March after a full year of being only virtual. I've been subbing in the public schools this spring because my preschool stayed virtual, but today was my first in-person day for set up and tomorrow will be my first in-person day with kids. I can't wait to be back with my own class! [And after this one week summer program the preschool is off for summer vacation. :) ] We're making plans to go see family in July, once we're fully vaccinated, so that's another big one.

The schools going hybrid (2 days in person/2 days virtual) and planning to go 5 days in-person come August and getting vaccinated. I’m fully vaccinated, my daughter and 2 of her 3 kids have rec’d their first dose of Pfizer, so they’ll be fully vaccinated (2 doses + 14 days by the end of June.

Only DD has been vaccinated here because she is in the health care (student) profession.
We are seeing the beginnings of the third wave, restrictions getting tighter again - masks still mandatory.
We have load shedding again - that's where the power goes off in waves across the country's grid in two hour increments.
We are flourishing though, there is still always so much good and so much to be thankful for.

Vaccinations, and I went to an outdoor concert yesterday.
(I have 5 more concerts planned so far this summer/fall. I'm truly thrilled.)

While our house hasn't locked down as much many (DH and I worked all throughout the pandemic, and my kids have had some sort of in person school since September, and then full time school since January), it's nice not to have to wear masks, and be out and about. Things are opening up, and I'm so much happier.

Definitely happy to be able to go places without a mask again finally and my favorite is being able to see friends and just hang out without over-thinking every single decision!!!

@HavaDrPepper My hubby just finished the LOOOOONG road to getting a dental implant. He knocked both of his front two teeth (on top) when he was twelve and took a baseball to the mouth. They were able to put them back in somehow and they lasted a pretty long time, but the roots were absorbing, so he finally had to get one of those pulled last February and had to do 2 bone grafts and then the metal thingie and just last Tuesday he finally got his permanent tooth put in. He is SOOO happy! He did say that he picked a good time to do it since we were wearing masks a lot of the time and nobody knew he didn't have a front tooth. Ha ha! He did have a little plastic tray thing with a fake tooth in it that he wore at work and most of the time we were around people, but he had to take that out to eat and he was happy that we didn't go out to restaurants during that time either. It sure is a long process though!

@Karen Luckily I didn't have to do any bone grafts. I had no teeth at all. All were pulled in Oct of 2018. I kept getting put off as to whether I could even get full dental implants by the oral surgeon locally so I said I'd try dentures. I couldn't even keep them in. Top dentures made me gag and the bottom wouldn't stay in even with adhesive. I was finally referred to a specialist in late 2019 that I saw in January 2020. He then referred me to 2 other places if my dentist wouldn't consider doing the fix that could be done to the dentures. I was hesitant to do anything for a couple of months and then COVID hit so I put it off again. I was also thankful for wearing masks because no one could see that I had no teeth at all! I finally had a consultation with Clear Choice in October and was told I was a perfect candidate. The actual process started Nov 16th and I got the final implant teeth on May 18th. 6 months and 2 days. My implants actually look like dentures in that they are all one unit but they connect to the 4 posts on both upper and lower. And, they are made of zirconia metal.

The past six months? I think it's been an extension and a realization that life has become much simpler - less to do, fewer places to go, and unfortunately, fewer people to visit with as many of my friends have moved, and family has moved away as well. That sounds like a negative, but it's really not. These last months have shown me that my little insulated world of my FIL, my SIL, my Husband, my daughter and I is enough. We enjoy our time together, and at the end of the work day, shutting the door on the world is a joy we look forward to. Now that we have the gift of going to Mass again, my life feels very full in its simplicity. I hope that makes sense to more than just me. LOL

Buying a house. I love having space, and a yard, and being able to spread out.

Also getting the news that Nick will be on days in about 3 weeks!!! So grateful to almost be done with grave shifts!

Best part? No masks- Seeing beautiful faces!!! Less covid talk; no longer framing life around it! AND fabulous weather!!
