This weekend has really gotten away from me and I've been at a full sprint for days! I feel like maybe I need a medal for getting here lol. But today really is Finisher's Medal Day, for celebrating everyone who starts competes and finishes a race. I'm not sure I'd ever really finish anything that involves running because it's not my favorite thing. I've tried starting a few times and I just don't enjoy it. If there's ever a Zombie apocalypse, I'll probably just lay down and accept my fate :giggle

I am curious though, who are the runners among us? Tell us all about your finishes and accomplishments!!

I'm *definitely* not a runner. LOL. But we have done the Color Run a couple of times when it was in our area (we walked), and have done the "On Deck for a Cause" walk on a cruise. Hats off to the runners.

I'm not a runner but I know there are some around here from pages in the gallery. My sisters have done half marathons but the only races I do are 5Ks. I ran my first 5K my freshman year of college. It was down a canyon and was actually really fun because it was all downhill!

I did a 5K once on my own, just to challenge myself because I am NOT a runner, and then another one with my son for his school fundraiser. He was in 5th grade if I remember right. I trained with him to get ready but on race day he took off and left me in the dust! He ended up coming in 5th place out of everyone, kids & adults. We had fun but that was the end of my running career. Took me a minute to find the layout I made about it in the gallery:

In 2011 a group of employees where I worked decided to sign up for a 5K in a small town nearby. It was only the 2nd year they had it during the "homecoming" weekend. The "homecoming" weekend was an annual tradition and raised money for the small Catholic Church in the community. We had matching shirts... we did work for a uniform rental company and also sold shirts and jackets that had a company's logo on them.

I participated although I walked since I have never been a runner (even as a kid). My final time was 56:06 and I was #178 out of 208 participants... I wasn't last! Since I walked and am a scrapbooker, I took my small camera and took pics while walking. Got some pics of my neighbor's oldest son. He finished in 22:08 coming in first in his age group. He was probably 14 or 15 years old.

I am not a runner anymore. I ran track in high school and was pretty good at the long distance running. I was MUCH thinner then too. :rofl Now I much prefer to go for a nice walk instead.

I was a runner in my 30s. Used to run a bunch of 5Ks and did a 10Ks once. I trained for a 1/2 marathon but ended up not being able to be in the marathon city on the day of the race so never ran it. The furthest I've run is about 10 miles which was plenty. :D About 10 years ago, I developed a chronic ankle problem (ironically, from spin, not from running) and despite physical therapy and all sorts of sports consultations, I have not been able to run since. So now I just do gym workouts which are boring and don't give the same runner's high. I miss that.

Not a runner, although in high school (1967-68) I was the fastest freshman girl to run one of the then required races around the track. At the time I used to also run the track with my dad a few times a week ... that's how he exercised.

I like to walk and (unless my knee is acting up) I have a brisk walking pace.

My granddaughter participated in a several Girls on the Run races in elementary school.

I have wanted to do color runs a few times, but something always comes up, they seem fun!

I knew I had seen a few "runner" pages in the galleries! The closest I've come to a 5K is the Couch 2 5K app at the gym lol. I think I go about 4 weeks in and remembered that I really just don't like running. I bet running down the canyon was cool!

That's so cool!! Congrats to him and you!!

I think it's awesome that you finished, and not last lol!! I bet your photos were great!!

I'm with you! A nice long walk sounds much better!!

Everyone I know who runs talks about that runner's high. I'd love to know what that's like, but I never got into running enough to get to that point I guess.

I'm impressed with anyone who was the fastest at anything ever lol. I've never been fast that I can remember. I like walking as well. I hadn't heard of Girls on the Run, but I looked it up and it looks like fun!!

I used to be a runner. I've run many 5ks, a few 1/2 marathons, and some in between. I haven't run in about a year. I hurt my back about a year and a half ago...not even sure how. I would take a break, try running again and the back pain would come back. I started lifting weights and walking instead. I think I'm stronger now and really have no desire to run anymore.

I am in the middle of doing Couch 2 5k right now! I am on week 7 and have a 5k race scheduled to run on Memorial Day, then my son and I are doing a 5K together in September that is at a nearby state park with a cave-- the race goes into and back out of the cave for about a mile of the 3.1 miles. Every runner gets glow sticks and they have all the lights on in the big main cavern room.
I have run a 5k before, but it was in 2009, and I had gained about 90 pounds after that time (then just recently I have been losing weight since Nov. 2022, and I am down 75 pounds from my starting point) Anyway, I am hopeful that this foray into running will go better than my last one!
My big plan is to run a Half-Marathon for my 50th birthday in April 2025. So, after I finish the Couch to 5k program, I am doing the Bridge to 10k, then a Half-Marathon training for the next year. I have been dealing with some bursitis in my left hip and IT syndrome in my other knee, but cortizone injections, foam rolling and physical therapy along with lots of walking seem to be helping.
