Tomorrow my oldest turns 12!!! 12..OMG....she is a 6th grader....and 12! she is madly in love with boys...I am no longer cool...and this year has been a roller costar of emotions for her..her best "friend" dumped her because Bianca wasn't in the popular crowd..and a good friend died...
where has time gone...

on another note..she did not ask for much for Christmas or her birthday this year.. just a new peacoat, makeup, hair chalks, iphone earbuds and an ipad mini cover. So I lucked out.. nothing over really $30! not like last year
so we already had a small birthday bash at a local hotel with a pool for her and 3 friends...and a small family party..since her birthday is so close to Christmas

Happy birthday to her! What a year, I hope this one will be full of positives for her!

The preteen and teen years are full of so many transitions and changes. My suggestion, having just got my first child to age 18, is to keep lines of communication open, stay involved and aware of activities and friends, be open and honest about your own teen years, and just love and hug as much as you can, enjoying each new season.

And seriously, as they get older, it's so weird with the Christmas presents. They get more expensive and only one or two of them . . . I miss the days of Barbies and their clothing, shoes, etc. Piles and piles of gifts! LOL

I feel you! My daughter turned twelve in July...she'll be 13 this summer. I just don't know how this is possible. Her wishlist was small this year, too. She wanted a new iPhone case. That's it.

We can commiserate together....

O , I can imagine how strange it must feel to realize she is 12 allready... and having these hormons working allready, lol!
I hope 2016 is a better year for her and for you!
Happy christmas to you and your family!

Oh I so get you here. My youngest just turned 14 on the 5th of December. So many changes in the last couple years. Expensive ones too!! I think braces are going to kill me!! Not to mention i am keeping my nephew in new clothes for years with how fast he is now growing out of his clothes. I don't know if I have ever mentioned my son has a growth hormone disorder. He takes shots nightly that help him to grow. In the last 2 years he has gained almost 8 inches. Actually probably more now. The shots themselves cost $8000.00 dollars a month! Thank God I was able to get him on Cal Cares this year because my husband got laid off a couple weeks ago and we lost insurance and I would have been a mess trying to figure out how I was going to afford to pay for his shots and his braces with no income. Good news is DH was able to get another job but he doesn't start until 01/03/2016 and no benefits until after the first 3 months. Ugghhh. We were told by his orthodontist that because of the growth hormone disorder his lower jaw has not grown right and it is shorter then the top jaw causing his teeth to overlap and pushing them backwards in his mouth. So when he bites down instead of his teeth connecting his miss each other. He has at least 4 years worth of Orthodontic work to do. Yikes. I tell you teens are the most expensive to have. I thought having boys would be cheaper then having girls but for me it has not worked out that way. LOL

You are just a baby! My youngest turned 12 this year which wouldn't make me feel so old except that my oldest will be 33 in just a few months! Yikes!!!
I'm sorry your little girl lost a friend. Such a young age to have to experience such a hard thing. I love 12. It is one of my favorite ages. They are just so sweet and a little bit lost while trying to figure out life. My son is still constantly hugging me which I love because after six kids (the rest all grown) I know that he won't be doing that too much longer.
Just love every minute with your pre-teen. Life takes on full blown roller coaster status in a year or two.

Kari - tell her to stay away from those boys! My youngest turned 14 this year. It is crazy. But she's the opposite with the gifts. For years she never knew what she wanted ... this year it is the opposite. Long list of stuff. Nothing too pricey, but wow it was a lot! My son didn't want anything. He gets his learner's permit in 2016 so I think he has delusions of grandeur that we will be buying him a car some time soon if he doesn't ask for much now! Crazy, crazy boy.

Kellie - I nearly had a heart attack for you! $8000/month. That is crazy. Thank goodness for Cal Cares. So happy to hear your husband found a job ... I have been worrying about you guys since you told us he got laid off. That is wonderful!

I'm with Shari. LOL. My daughter is 27 now. Yikes. My stepson is the baby, and he just turned 23.

Good luck with the teen years. My only advice is to be tough. I was a single mom and didn't let my daughter get away with much (I still don't), and she's turned out great. My step-daughter on the other hand. Yikes. My husband let her get away with everything (as did her mother), and from 16-25, she's been an absolute nightmare. They are still letting her get away with everything and not calling her out on anything. Ugh. My daughter and I ended up more like the Gilmore Girls, but I was a hard @** when I had to be.

Lots of love and patience!!!!

I know just what you mean as my baby is a now a teenager and for the first time we have had occasional outbreaks of eye-rolling. Fortunately she still thinks most boys are idiots! And we've avoided most of the girl dramas so far (I can't stand that so I feel for you). But we are up for a fortune on braces. :groan

lol!! 12!! I thought 21... hahaha.. she is a BEAUTY!!!

Oh boy.... I'm getting there... lol! My son just turned 11. He's still good... but I know it's coming. I think I dread it!

Kari - I hope this year is wonderful for her and things calm down for you guys!

Carrie - !!!! 13!!!! HOLY MOLY! I don't believe it! They are growing so fast!

They sure do grow up fast! My oldest is now 24, the middle 20, but I still have the youngest at 10. I always say he will either be the one that keeps me young, or the one that makes me feel realllly old!
Happy birthday to your daughter, and I hope that this year brings nothing but joy and happiness for her!!

My oldest turns 12 in March and it's hitting me pretty hard. Those are such hard hard years. They were the worst for me. It sounds like she has had a rough go of it this past year. :( I remember when I was that age and my bff decided she hated me. I cried so much. It was so awful. Everything goes straight to the heart at that age. I hope she has a happy birthday and I so hope the next year is much easier for her!

Happy birthday to Bianca and may 2016 be peaceful and full of friendship.

I'm enjoying my time with a teenager. My oldest is 14. She's very independent and idealistic and dramatic and enjoys lively debate, and so much fun. I also have a 12 year old daughter and a 9 year old son. I've loved every age so far except maybe 3.

I think time weirdly goes both fast and slow. Yes, it's amazing they're already so big, but when I look back it seems like their young days are so long ago. It's hard to remember them. Maybe I just have a bad memory. That's why I journal, take lots of pictures, and scrapbook.

Happy Birthday to your daughter!

I have two teens... youngest just turned 14 in October and my son will be 16 in April. What makes me feel old with them is realizing how soon we'll be empty nesters! They're both good, responsible kids, but we work hard to have a good relationship with them and we give them a pretty long leash as long as they're responsible. Justice is swift if they're not though. So far for us, girl drama at school was at it's worst in 5th and 6th grade, I have no clue why, but there was a lot of tween stuff going on. They all seem to have mellowed out now though and, although they're not all bff's, they all get along well. Clara went through a stage last year where she would have forgotten her head if it wasn't attached and now we just have the occasional moodiness. Wondering what high school will bring!

Wow, she looks so much like you!
My 7 year old pretty much thinks he's a teenager, so I get it. What a rough year for her. Looking back, 12-14 were my absolute favorite years. My best friend didn't dump me until age 15. It will get better. Just remember, puberty is hard, she'll think you know nothing and you just don't understand. It's enough to just listen when needed. She's beautiful.

My daughter was 12 in January and started High School so it's been a big year. She's turning 13 in a few weeks and then the 2nd year of High School begins. All she wanted for Christmas was a new iphone!
