I love American History, I do, I do. Especially the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. So much to learn from the pioneers and inventors.
What is your favorite time period to read about, be it fiction or non?

I never liked history in school. I never could make it seem real enough to remember the dates, people's names or order of events. Then I discovered historical fiction and it's probably my favorite type of book. I love that the characters in the book make me care a whole lot more about the event happening in history around them. My sister introduced my to The Other Boleyn Sister, so I read most of that series about Henry VIII. I also seem to be reading a lot of WWII time frame books over the last couple of years.

I don't know that I have favorite. I am always drawn to stories of the Victorian/Edwardian type eras, but that is more British. Part of that could coincide with the US Expansion, Civil War and Reconstruction eras of the Americas. I've never honestly thought about it. :giggle History is NOT my best subject at all when younger, but I can read stories about history now, but not textbooks.

I love to read about different eras in British history: Dark Age, Plantagenets, Tudor and Regency. I haven't read much American history but I did love the Kent Family Chronicals by John Jakes which I read many, many years ago. I've also enjoyed a few by Sarah Donati

Ohhh I love it all. So much. I have a special spot in my heart for Roman history..I think from all my years of studying Latin. But I love to learn about all eras. :beat

I love the WWII time period. Biographies, historical fiction...this is my favourite.

I LOVE history and majored in it in college. My favorite has always been the Civil War era. It has always fascinated me.

I also like Revolutionary war history and the pioneer history. Laura Ingalls Wilder was one of my heroes when I was little. I loved the show and the books. I did quite a few school projects on her. One of these days I would love to do a trip to visit her houses.

I'm fascinated by all of it! I'm with Karen on finding historical fiction more accessible than textbooks, but I've found some nonfiction history books interesting. And John Green and the others doing Crash Course classes on YouTube are awesome! They started with history and branched out to other topics.

LOVE history! Actually obtained my degree in teaching with a specialty in history. My favorite is English History - the 1500s. Henry VIII was so fascinating. I also love Russian history - the Romanovs.

My autistic son is also fascinated with history. That is one of his amazing gifts - he loves WW1 and WW2 and can quote nearly every battle with location, generals, casualties, etc. So cool.

I love the Tudor era too. When I was about 11 years old, PBS had a mini-series of sorts, called "The Six Wives of Henry VIII", after that I was hooked. History was always my best subject in school, and I ended up majoring in it at university.

I'm a firm believer in the idea that you really cannot understand current events without being somewhat aware of came before.

Me too! I remember when I was young and I got the whole box set for Christmas I read them all, while on that break from school! And then re-read them!

I just love to get a good fiction book set in the Mid-evil times. I would love to go and visit some castles someday. Walk the gardens that are surrounding them!

I've read a lot of Amish books. For some reason that is really interesting to me too.

I like the Civil War with Lincoln too... I love John Jakes books (North & South Trilogy- books and movies) as it makes a story out of history and mixes the two :)

History is my favooorrritteeee!!!! It's my oldest's favorite subject too, which makes me happy!! I actually wanted to major in History, but wasn't sure what I'd do with that degree, so I didn't. I use a curriculum called Classical Conversations with my kids and I love it because it is very historically based. 3 cycles (years) covers from Creation, through present day. My favorite period in American History has always been from the 30's - 50's. But there are lots of periods in World History that fascinate me. I couldn't chose just one! So much we can learn from the past.
