Fast Five: Transportation Part 2|Pad Patter 2.6

All of them except a hot air balloon. I have to do something about that! Subways in NYC, DC, Boston, Paris, London, Barcelona. I love the subway. Street car in San Fran. Cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska and the Mediterranean. And lots and lots of ferries in British Columbia (and the NY Staten Island ferry). We LOVE to travel so we get lots of transportation experiences.

5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yup. Growing up in Michigan to parents who love car rides, my childhood consisted of day trips to Mackinac Island and you get there via boat. (BTW, we lived like 4.5 hours away from the Island. They were long days--sometimes overnights, thankfully rofl.) No cars are allowed on the island, so it's all (smelly) horses and bikes on it. And I've been on the ferry from England to Ireland and then from Ireland to Scotland.

My mom's cousin was married to the veterinarian on Mackinac Island. The family lived in Cairo MI during the winter and spent the summers on the island. They had 3 daughters who all got married on the island. I went to 2 of the weddings. The parents are long gone and all 3 daughters now live in Naples, FL during the winter. Just last year, they sold off their last business on the island and their last business in Naples. They are now fully retired! They still have a house on the island and their 1st cousin and I (I'm a 2nd cousin) plan to go visit while they are there. Hopefully this summer. I am looking forward to visiting it again as it has been over 40 years since I've been there!

@HavaDrPepper that's so fun! I was there with my DD 6 summers ago. It was funny how much it was still the same as when I visited as a child. :) obviously some stuff was different, but there is a definite feel to Mackinac!

1. Have you ridden a subway? Yes. In D.C., Paris, and Stockholm.
2. Have you ridden a street car? No.
3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon? No, but I'd like to.
4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship? Nope.
5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yes, a few times. Across San Diego Harbor a few times, once in Seattle, and twice to Catalina Island off the coast of California.

1. Have you ridden a subway?
No

2. Have you ridden a street car?
Yes

3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon?
No

4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship?
5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat?

I'm answering these two together, because I have no idea if what I rode on was a ferry or a cruise. Haha. I had an anniversary dinner on a "cruise" around San Diego. It was only a few hours... no over nights, but the same port boarding and departing...

Not even the subway?

I was 27 years old before I took a subway. I was living in southern CA my whole life up to that point, where there are no subways. In 1998 my husband and I traveled to Stockholm for the first time (his brother married a Swedish woman and we've been there three times) and that was where I had my first subway ride. Since then I've added the Paris subway and now, thanks to living an hour south of the U.S. capital, I've traveled the D.C. Metro many times. Still not enough to be confident in my ability to get around though; I've yet to ever do it alone.

1. Have you ridden a subway?
Yes, many time and in many cities around the world!

2. Have you ridden a street car?
Yes
3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon?
No, although my family has... I get really motion sick and I wasn't sure I could handle. I didn't want to get sick with everyone in such a small, enclosed space.

4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship?
Yes, not a huge fan... see motion sickness above.

5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat?
Yes

1. Have you ridden a subway? Yes. I used to work in NYC, and still when visiting there.

2. Have you ridden a street car? No... or not yet. :)

3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon? No... I'm not sure I would be totally comfortable.

4. Have you ridden on a cruise ship? Yes, LOVE!

5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yes, oodles. After 9/11, I used that to commute to work when the trains and path were still down. That was for at least a year, I believe. I do still want to ride the Staten Island Ferry (for the pictures of NYC and Lady Liberty!)

2. Have you ridden a street car? Yes, in New Orleans
3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon? Yes, my aunt got the gift of hot air balloon rides for her 50th birthday, so she had the balloon operator come to our family reunion, and they took everyone who wanted to go up in groups of 4. It was not as much fun as I had imagined, and I didn't really like the hard landing we had.
4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship? Yes, I went on a cruise of the western Carribean for spring break one year in high school, with my parents and my brother.
5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yes, ferry from Sicily to mainland Italy, also I rode on a ferry from Dauphin Island, AL to Gulf Shores, AL, and the New York ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

had the best time on a golf cart which we almost put in the lake and then couldn't get the brake to work when we wanted to stop.
This has got to be an awesome story that you laugh about still! I totally giggled imagining it!

2. Have you ridden a street car? Again, no. We have trolleys... does that count?
Absolutely! Trolleys and Streetcars are cousins. Or the same depending on who named it!

We LOVE to travel so we get lots of transportation experiences.
That's amazing!

I'm answering these two together, because I have no idea if what I rode on was a ferry or a cruise.
I'd go cruise, but you can call it whichever you want!

I was 27 years old before I took a subway.
I was only wondering because I know she lives close enough to some of the cities with Subways, I was surprised she hadn't been!:backing @IntenseMagic :bk

It was not as much fun as I had imagined,
Bummer! I hate when something isn't as fun as you hope!

I'm going on another cruise in March
Sweet! Where to?

you should have seen my husband and me carrying the double stroller down the stairs in NYC.
I can picture that. Vividly. Because my brother and his wife did the same thing only in Boston.

Alaskan cruise is what I'd like to do next.
I'd really like to go to Alaska.
You both need to go! Look - I found you a cabin mate! :circles

1. Have you ridden a subway? Nope
2. Have you ridden a street car? Nope
3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon? Nope
4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship? Nope
5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yes! Finally! Haha. Have crossed Sydney Harbour a few times on the ferry (and the JetCat, which was FAST!!), but have also been on some little ones that just cross a few cars at a time across some little rivers.

1. Have you ridden a subway? Yep. I love to. Chicago, NYC, Boston
2. Have you ridden a street car? Nope. Sad face. Do they have them other than in SF? We do have a trolley in town that is like an open air bus, but made to look like a street car. I've been on one of those.
3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon? Nope. Probably won't?
4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship? Nope. LOTS of other boat trips, but no big cruiseship.
5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat? Yes. Lots of time back and forth to Mackinaw Island, then I even did a four hour ferryboat from the Northern tip of the U.P. in Michigan to Isle Royale. I also went on one with our car somewhere as a kid on vacation. I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

1. Have you ridden a subway?
Yes, in D.C. and Toronto.

2. Have you ridden a street car?
Not yet! On my bucket list!

3. Have you ridden in a hot air balloon?
Yes! It was tethered, though, so does that really count?! I'd love to take a ride in one.

4. Have you ridden on a cruiseship?
Not yet. On my bucket list! My parents cruise allllll the time now that they're both retired. I wouldn't want to cruise for weeks at a time like they do but I'd love to go on The Rock Boat cruise. Maybe for my 40th birthday in 2020?!

5. Have you ridden on a ferryboat?
Yes, I rode across Puget Sound in one. I loooooove boats so it was way rad.
