I am so excited that I can't stand it! I currently work full time from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. My two boys (5 and 7) have always been in daycare. My youngest starts kindergarten on sept 6th and our school has full day kindergarten. Well, at my review in January I asked if I could start coming in at 6:00 a.m. and work until 3:00 so I could be the one to pick my kids up from school and then take them home and not have to pay for daycare anymore. I didn't hear anything for a long time and then in June I started bugging my boss about it again. It wasn't sounding very good and then out of the blue, they agreed that I could do it! I'm not sure if I'm more excited about saving $800 a month on daycare or the fact that I'll get to spend a whole lot more time with my kids! It's almost as good as being a stay at home mom, but I get to keep my job and salary! Woot!

Just had to share! I start my new hours the day they go back to school. My hubby is going to have to be the one to get the kids up, dressed and fed in the morning too, so that kind of an added bonus that I'm looking forward to also! :happydance

that is GREAT NEWS!! i'm so glad that worked out for you!! you will love getting to spend so much time with the kids!

That's amazing Karen! I also think it's great that your hubby will do morning duty!! Congrats sweetie! :)

Karen - what a God send!!! That is fabulous! Great timing and so awesome to be able to spend the last part of the afternoon home with the boys and able to get dinner ready without being rushed, etc.!!! Happy for you!!!

That's great news Karen!

Dh and I are trying out the opposite arrangement this year. With my youngest now entering grade 1, I knew it was going to be impossible for me to handle both before- and after-school care while working fulltime. Last year was hard enough! So dh starts at 7am and gets home by 4pm to get the boys from the bus stop, and do the after-school routine of homework, home-reading, and spelling while I finish work. I do the morning routine and get them out to the bus on time. Hopefully this works well, because after-school care is full around here.

karen, that is awesome news!! I am so happy for you!

What great news, Karen! I am so happy for you!! I wish more employers were flexible about schedules. I think it's such a common problem in the US.

Karen...that sounds like a win/win situation to me!! How awesome!
