External Drive Won't Show Up on Computer??

So frustrated. My external drive (a G drive) - won't show up on my MAC!! Ugh! I a layoutLayout done(on drive) as are all my supplies and pictures! Luckily I have Crashplan, but I am not ready to believe the drive is dead. It is powering up just not able to see it on the computer. Any suggestions?

Can you use the a pressurized air to try to clean the connections? What about a different pot? Can you open it on a different computer?

Sometimes I have to reboot my computer because something doesn't show up? I'm no expert and you've probably already done it. But just in case. And I agree with Jenn -- sometimes I think it's something in the connectors.
 
Just tried a different port - with slower but different port and that worked. Will Have to see how to have port cleaned or fixed??
 
:yesss Hopefully you can just blow it out? So glad it wasn't the hard drive.
 
are you using a USB connection? there are type 2 and type 3...maybe the Mac port is not compatable. just a thought
 
The same thing happened to me, Kelly, and I really wish I could remember the exact steps I took to get it back!

I do remember that I had to go into Disk Utilities. The EHD was there, but I can't remember what I did to get it to show up on my desktop. Here's the article I followed, although I did not need to do Step 7. I was able to fix the problem before then, and even if I couldn't there was no way I was going to erase my EHD!

Do you have another EHD? If not I would get one and back this one up. Mine was starting to get funny so I got another one and was backing my stuff up from one to the other and all was going well, starting making noises and then the next day I could see it but couldn't get to any of the files. Had a buddy who is very knowledgeable take it and he was unable to retrieve anything, lost A LOT of stuff but thankfully my photos were the first thing I backed up as I had lost 3 y ears before due to a hard drive fail.
