Has anyone ever successfully had an EHD recovered? And the question I am afraid to ask...how expensive was it??

I had a brand new EHD crash on me last year so it wasn't backed up at all. I have held onto it because it breaks my heart to think about throwing it out.

Nope, I haven't... good luck, hopefully the gals come here with good news!

I have if the disk still spins. DH has recovered a couple with software here at home so the software was our only cost. I've had a few recovered (important files only - photo files and MyDocs folder) by computer techs and that always cost a couple hundred dollars. If the disk doesn't turn on or spin at all I've never attempted recovery.

mine started making this whirling crazy nasty noise, so I sped to the nearest store bought a new one and was able to transfer almost everything that day. I was missing a few years of photos, yes, no online back up at the time. I was ill, nauseus.
I put the EHD in a drawer and cried.
A year later I plugged it in, same noise, but it was on, I got those photos, I still have the blasted thing, paperweight.

I've never had to do this. I hope you can pull everything you need off of it.

I was able to get some things off mine last year with PC Inspector. But when it happened again they were too corroded.

I'm with Anne. I had one that was being really weird so I transferred most of the stuff. Then went back later & it worked enough to get the rest. I still have it just in case in one of my drawers. I hope you can get your files.

Rachel Young's brother does this and from what I remember was pretty reasonable! Send her a PM and she can send you his info. I hope you can get your stuff back! :(

Oh no! Sorry brynn :( my end recently died, but I didn't really shop around because I had everything backed up online and was able to restore it that way. I was quoted a price of $50 per GB, with no guarantees. CRAZY expensive, considering I had about 300 GB on there. Good luck!

I had mine die and didn't have any luck recovering but I didn't bring it anywhere. Luckily it was just a few months of photos. Ugh. I haven't trusted them since - I'm backing up online. Good luck!
