Since we moved in April, I've been looking for a new way to store/display my photo books. I finally had the epiphany that 12x12 books are the same size as a record album, so I started searching for record storage options. I found one that I thought looked good online and ordered it. It took about a month, but it arrived today! My daughter put it together and I'm in love. Not great photos because of where the sun was, but here it is...
I love the tilt because it makes the titles on the spines really easy to see. I got it from Wayfair, if you're interested.
What a great idea! I'm adding this to a list of ideas for my birthday! LOL And I love Sara's idea of spreading out an album on the top to highlight during a holiday or season of the year.
You're so smart Tracie! I never thought to look for record storage! We just had a discussion about this after Monica posted on the blog about her storage cabinet that she bought at IKEA and it made me realize that I am going to have to something VERY soon about my album storage because the one shelf I have that is big enough for my 12x12 photo books is now full!
I love the fun tilt to yours... like you said, makes reading the spines super easy!
What a beautiful, creative solution! I know the sun pouring in doesn't make for the clearest photos, but I love the mood it conveys. I'm intrigued by the curved surface with the angular projections in the left of the bottom photo - what is that?
Well... now I wish I would have invested in lay flat books!! Great idea though... it'll still be a great place to put all of my DYD albums during Christmas time!
Not really... lol!!! Years ago I was looking for a bookcase and mentioned in the store that the shelves needed to be able to fit a 12x12 album. The salesman then started asking my about my vinyl collection Several years later, I finally put it together that there might be products out there specifically for records... so I'm actually not all that smart
We live in a loft in a converted department store that was built around 1904. My assumption is that maybe the floors were at different levels at one time and those were the supports? But now that I think about it, I'm not so sure of that since I think the building stairwell is the original grand store stairwell and the landing is level with this floor. Not all of the support poles have those, so maybe they supported something else? Now I have a mystery to solve!!
Here are some better photos I took this morning where you can see the poles with the protrusions and the one without...
Such a cool, unique space! Interesting mystery! Maybe they supported some sort of counters or shelves? Seems odd that they would be built right into the structure of the building though. Hope you get it figured out!
A pun is not fully matured until it is full groan.

That is brilliant! I'm filing this idea away for the future.
Thanks for sharing pictures of your loft too. I'm fascinated by other people's houses, but real ones, not like they show in magazines.
DH is a vinyl collector. Years ago, when he upgraded his shelving, I confiscated the old units to use for photo albums and scrapbooks. His existing storage is modular, made of oak, by a company that is no longer in business. The gentleman retired, pretty much a one-man operation. They also have a tilt, although it is a gradual one. But I can attest that there are high end stereo businesses that carry shelving for vinyl and 12x12 photo albums.
