SO an exciting day for the American Continent perhaps? Today is the solar eclipse in that part of the world.

Who is going to be making a point of going outside to view it? Anyone taking photos?
On behalf of those of us in other parts of the world, please share your pictures here. Pictures of solar eclipse viewers, selfies wearing them, or the eclipse itself.

I will be sitting in my front yard to view it! I have a cousin, her DH and their 2 granddaughters here were me. They live in another part of Ohio that is not in the full totality viewing path. A cousin that lives around the corner from me will be joining us. Her house is surrounded by trees... mine isn't!

As for photos, I want to take more of the experience not necessarily the actual totality. There will be plenty of those shared online! Will be scraping them using Kristin's awesome kit!
 
I won’t be able to view it either but the one last year was fun. The hole punch trick was our favorite.
 
I have today's homeschool lesson planned, my gear prepped, and my child is literally JUMPING in excitement. (Thank goodness Mondays are science day anyway so we're not even messing up our routine.) We're not in the path of totality but are still looking forward to this. I got "eclipse glasses" for my 150-500mm lens and am hoping to get some good shots from my driveway. We have 2 pairs of eclipse glasses for my mini me and I with today's date on them that we got at the library last October for that eclipse. (Sadly, we did not get the free with purchase pair when I subjected my husband to Sonic's eclipse slush float this weekend so he doesn't have a pair to bring to work.) I have out outfits picked out and my hair isn't a total disaster so I can try for an eclipse glasses selfie. I even have an idea of how I want to scrap it.

These are our eclipse glasses. I checked them over last night. There's a light scratch on the one for my camera but it appears to be cosmetic. The ones for us are still good to go.

I didn't scrap baby's first solar eclipse in 2017 with a kit from The Lilypad but I do have a "I woke my toddler in the middle of the night" page from a lunar eclipse. Hopefully after today we'll have a solar eclipse page to share too.

I bought eclipse glasses for my grandsons, my granddaughter & her boyfriend, and for me and my father so we can "sneak" out of the office and look. I didn't buy anything for my iPhone ... I am hoping to photograph reflections on my car's windshield.
 
I got to see about 85% eclipse. We were not in the path of totality. I took a pic of me, lol! I tried with the glasses on the phone, but it just turns to an orange blob, haha!
 
It was wonderful!

The temperature drop was noticeable about 10 minutes before totality. It was in the 70's today (not a usual temp for Ohio in early April) and was actually hot when out in the sun. All of a sudden I noticed that it was feeling cooler as did my family members. Not long after that was totality. We noticed various lights on houses coming on because it was dark. I had turned my motion lights off so they wouldn't come on since we were right there in front of one. It was almost 4 minutes for full totality. I have solar lights in my flower beds that did come on but were not intrusive to our view. The sky to the south was the colors of a beautiful sunset. Others noticed the absence of birds but I didn't. Then it started getting lighter and the temp went back up and the birds starting flying around again.

A quick glance at my Ring camera videos on the garage light shows that I have some videos during totality. Will have to get them downloaded to save!
 
Today did not go according to plan but I'm still pretty excited by what I manged to capture. We only had 50% coverage here so it was HOT and my 7 year old chose to stay inside while I sweated for 2 hours. It turns out that my 150-500mm and my tripod do not like to play nice together so I had to *handhold* my camera. I did a lot more watching - and chugging my water bottle - than I did shooting.

Here's my camera set-up, complete with its own pair of eclipse glasses, as well as a shot at peak sun coverage. (I will spare you my sweaty solar glasses selfie for now)

We watched it in the middle of our work day today. Our company even bought us solar glasses (even though I'd already gotten some from my library). It was pretty cool. We saw 95% coverage and it was noticeably darker outside, although not completely dark. My college aged son texted me just before the complete eclipse to say he'd jumped in the car with a bunch of his fraternity brothers and drove a couple hours south of his campus, so they got to see full totality. I love that they did that!

I tried taking pictures with my phone through a spare pair of solar glasses, but it didn't work well. I'll just grab some pictures from other people online and use those instead. :giggle
 
We were in the path of totality in 2017 and it was amazing! This time I think we got 75-80% coverage, which was still pretty cool and we watched from our driveway sharing a pair of glasses that one of our girls had kept from the 2017 eclipse! This is one time I'm thankful for those hoarder tendencies! :giggle

My father and I popped in and out of the office to watch the eclipse. There were a number of other people outside from the other offices (townhouse offices). We got 88% totality, but the temperature didn't seem to drop, nor did it seem to darken.

My granddaughter said her co-workers loved me b/c she shared the eclipse glasses I'd given her. She works for a vet facility and they were also popping in and out of the building to view the eclipse.

I only photo I took was a selfie of myself wearing my eclipse glasses over my regular glasses.
 
We were between 80-90% totality, but darn clouds and rain...we didn't see anything :( We gave all the students in the school glasses and took them out on he front lawn to see clouds lol. It did get a little darker and cooler, but that's all we had.
