I discovered the fun of DYD last year here at the pad and so enjoyed putting together my album. I'm planning to do it again this year and am a bit torn between doing digi or paper (well, probably somewhat hybrid). I don't have a printer or fancy cutter (love me some scissors! :giggle) or anything, so printing out my digi supplies and using them on a paper LO is tricky. Any suggestions? I love the ease of digi and the crazy, amazing products from our wonderful designers here :heartslub, but I still find myself drawn to physical pages and actually putting them together. Maybe I just need to play with some glue. :dizzy

Hee, hee. I'm the exact same way! I love the process of putting things together but I'm not organized enough to know what to print out before hand, and printing things on the fly is just too chaotic and messy for me. For last year's december daily, I created most of my pages in photoshop, sent them to print (costco) and assembled them in an 7x9 kraft binder. I'll probably do something similar this year. :)

Are you doing planning to do separate December Daily and Project life entries or combining them somehow?

I'm planning to do a separate DD project this year and then *hopefully* actually do Project Life next year. I started it this year (all digi) and was loving it, but got behind and sidetracked and never picked it back up. There's something appealing about actually using the physical products and having to just put the pages together with the pieces I have (assuming I buy a set or something), but I know I won't be able to resist the digi-goodness here and will end up trying to use both and then flip back and forth or something. I'm afraid I'd eventually just give it up.

I do like the idea of maybe assembling the printed pages in a binder though, at least for December. That way I could add a few goodies to the album maybe...

This is EXACTLY what happened to me last year.

I plan on doing a hybrid album. I may design some pages completely in photoshop - photo and all. I may print out various supplies and assemble them all. I may buy some actual paper scrapping product. That's my plan for when I do project life next year too.

I do suggest a rotary cutter, xacto knife, and self-healing mat. And adhesive, of course. Those are the basics that I always use in hybrid projects.

This one still has me so torn.
I come from paper scrapping and still enjoy it - but there is never enough time to create in between making a mess before feeling like I have to clean it all up again. Gotta keep that stuff outta reach of the kids. What I am finding out is that paper scrapping is limiting. There is only one copy. If there is an event that includes both of my kids or any other family member and I paper scrap it - there is only one copy. Thinking in terms of the future - esp with daily stuff that is a mix of everyone in our family and would be the most treasured things to look back on - how would I pass one copy on to my two children? (Yes - I kid myself into believing that my children will eventually want these things). Anywho... for this reason I have decided to keep it digi. I can print any size. I can print in book form. I can replace prints that become damaged.

Hybrid sounds like a good mixture of both! Maybe that will work for you!

i'm hoping to do DYD this year - and i'll be doing digi b/c i just cannot get myself organized enough to do paper ... my desk is already a disaster ...

I completed my first December Daily (well, I called it Countdown to Christmas since it had some November and ended before NY) last year after trying to do it a couple years before, and the only reason it got done was because I did it all digitally and worked on it almost every night. I knew that if I let more than a day or two go without making the pages that I'd get overwhelmed and quit. There's no way that I personally could do paper and/or hybrid because I don't have that much time in my daily schedule to print off, affix, and otherwise play with paper-y things on top of creating a scrapbook page, kwim?

I know right now I'd never get far in a paper album. (or hybrid for that matter). FOr the same reasons Trista mentioned too, I think digi is the way to go. I do love creating with my hands, paint, glue...but I satisfy that with doing random art projects with the kiddos.

I tried doing a paper album the last two years and couldn't do it. Like Liz, I'm not organized enough to plan for printing photos and everything. And my printer doesn't like to cooperate. I am thinking that I'll do all digi this year, and then if I want an album, I'll just print it later at Shutterfly or something.

I'm kinda thinking I'll probably stick with all digi. But the paper and glue and fun bits keep tempting me... I'll have to find another craft to get my fix!

For my albums I stay all digi... I let the crafty playing with scissors, glue, and glitter out on other stuff. :) Mod Podge is my BFF lately!

I've been thinking about my plan for this year, and I'm definitely doing digi. I'm going to create an 8.5x11 photobook. Can't wait to get started this year!

So, are most of you doing your albums beforehand? I like that idea - in fact trying to do both with my 30 days of prayer ended up being way too much to do at once, but I feel like it would be kind of weird to make the pages beforehand. I mean, my pages are usually inspired by the photo or writing. I'm torn. I know I can't do both daily.

Going to have to think on this one.

i LOVE December Daily! I've been doing them for the past 2 years and will be this year too! I do a hybrid take where i print most of my stuff like paper and some ellies.

Start off simple and see how it goes and where it takes you. it's a good 25 day commitment! I basically have a 2 page spread - one side being a full picture and the other a more collag-y scrap style with wash tape and journaling. I also incorporate cut and sewn page protectors and printed decorative vellum.

I have so much fun with it and just let loose and do whatever feels fun each day for that page. I precut all my basic page papers to the size im doing...(first year i just used white textured CS, and last year used various pattern papers that i printed on CS) and have them ready to go.

Here's my DD from last year

I'm hoping to do a at least a few pages beforehand. I did that last year and it really helped on days that I just didn't have time. I plan to do a few generic ones that I can add theme specific embellies to, but also several on thins that I know I'll do pages about at some point (ie - special ornaments, our list of Christmas movies to watch, holiday shopping, our christmas bucket list, etc). That way, on whichever days I do those, I've got pages pretty much done already.

Kim, I don't do mine beforehand. I do choose a template set (a designer at another site makes a yearly set that I use) and then pull my favorite Christmas kits into a DD folder ahead of time, though. Last year, every page had a kraft background paper and then the 'inside' (where the template was) was whatever kit went with my pictures/stories. I limited myself to minimal post-processing (lightening or darkening and fixing blemishes was okay, but anything artsy beyond that was out) on my photos and an hour(ish) time frame per page. That worked really well for me since I really focused on the journaling aspect of my page and didn't need as much composing since I had the templates.
