My kids, ugh. None of them can drive. One is 21 and another is 17 and we're just now starting this process.

My 21 year old is taking his road test this morning. Again. After failing it last week. I swear if he doesn't pass this time...

And now the 17 is all riled up to drive. Should I have to teach kids to drive back to back like this?? MY NERVES!!! :dizzy

It will be nice to not have to drive him to work and back every day, though.

Anyone selling a car?

I hope to never have to teach anyone to drive again, Angie. I have felt your pain. Teaching them to park around the holiday shopping season was always the big test.

I feel you, too! My oldest was over 17 before he got his license and my daughter got hers on her 18th birthday. What a relief to not have to do the work shuttle anymore, but new worries I guess. I remember I couldn't wait to get my license and they are all like meh. I think when the 9 year old gets there, I'm going to hand that job off to dad!

He passed! By one point, but he passed!

I'm not letting the next one take the test until he's 18 but only because he turns 18 in November and if he takes it when he's 17 he has to have drivers training. Gonna save myself $300 by making him wait a couple months. LOL

So glad he passed! Interesting that at 18 you don't need driver's training. Here at 18-24 you still have to take a 6 hour classroom or online course. But I'm sure it's much cheaper than the 32 hours of classroom and 44 hours of behind the wheel (14 with instructor, the rest with parent) required for the younger teens. :p

DS (15) starts his training next week. It's a totally different experience than when I got my license. Everything was done through my school, including the fairly minimal hours of behind the wheel stuff. Other than that, my dad took me driving only a few times before I got my license – nowhere near the amount of time required here. There is an option for parent teaching here following some sort of state requirements, but DH and I didn't want to attempt it. With the crazy traffic around here, I'm already wishing DS could do ALL of his behind the wheel training with an instructor. :scared :giggle

I was 23 when I first got my license. My dad tried to teach me to drive when I first got my learner's permit as a teenager. It was a bad scene. In order to get my license I had a friend take me out for a couple of hours in a parking lot and she taught me everything I needed to know to pass the driving test (after not being behind a wheel for 6 or 7 years)..how scary is that? At 24 I was driving a 24' Penski truck filled with theatre sets and costumes all over the country. It all still feels a little crazy when I look back on it..lol.

DD is 13 now, which means she is less than 2 years away from being old enough for a permit. Scary stuff.

I got one all driving and doing errands and he moves out? what????
so my next one we are doing early, like in 2 weeks, he will be licensed, and the twins start in December, so they will be errand runners for the summer too?!
wow, I may never leave my house again...off to download bhahhaha

i have my fingers in my ears and i'm chanting. i don't even want to think about this. i just started letting my 13 year old (oldest) cross the busy street near us like last month!

It's definitely a mixed bag. I'm so glad we have graduated licenses! My 16 year old has her permit and will be official in November. It terrifies me, not because she's a bad driver, she isn't at all, but traffic is horrible here and people drive like lunatics, they're so aggressive and distracted. I'm totally burned out on the chauffeuring but since we won't have an extra car I'm not sure how much less of that there will be. I'm totally looking forward to sending her to the grocery store though. :P

I remember how nice it was when my oldest could drive herself to the multiple ballet classes she took. Yay for having another errand runner in the house.

I am SO not ready for this! LOL! My oldest is 10 so I have awhile to forget this is coming. :)

Congrats to him....and you!

Mine got his learners permit on his 16th birthday as you have to be 16 to do it. He has been doing Drivers Ed. this week, 20 hrs of class time and then must do 10 hrs of in car. You have to wait a full year to do your driving test unless you do the Drivers Ed, then it's 8 months and it gives a discount on insurance. I'm not ready for this either but it will be nice when he has late hockey practice and I don't feel like being at the arena at 11 pm.
