dop·pel·gäng·er
ˈdäpəlˌɡaNGər/
noun
  1. an apparition or double of a living person.
"he has a doppelgänger named Donald, his invented twin brother"
On more than one occasion, I have people come up to me, and say, oh my you look just like so and so...
but..........
last Saturday, I was in the produce section of our local grocery store. I am a talker and a smiler, and so I smile and babble with strangers all the time. These two ladies smiled at me, and then kept staring. I walk to them, and asked if they were okay, or if I knew them?
(I also meet a lot of people and forget easy). They grabbed each others hands and said, "oh my you are the exact image of our most favorite Aunt Stella" I said, oh well, goodness, is she fun? They said, she passed and she was crazy and oh so cool.
OH, I said, I am sorry about her passing. HOw old was she when she passed? 83.
YIKES, I said, do I look 83?
NO NO No, they both laughed in unison...
We got to talking and these two sisters, are same age (maybe a bit older) than me, are traveling across country, they have been to 29 states already. We laughed and laughed.
We went to part, and I asked if I might give them a Christmas hug.
the tears flowed from all of us, right by the cranberries in the produce section.
Pure Christmas magic...that is beyond wonderful!
Have you ever seen or been approached by someone who thinks you have a doppelganger?
@JillW spoke of one in this thread, but I didn't want to hijack it..

No i haven't but our shops here don't have as many random christmas hugs and beautiful moments!

(When my son was still in a pram, maybe 18m.o., i went to a Dr's once, for me, not him, and the Dr couldnt stop starring at him; he ended up telling me he had twin boys and they looked exactly like my son and it was a bit startling and distracting for him)

I think I found a Doppelgänger for @mirjam . This is my granddaughter's volleyball coach. I think they could be twins.

What do you think?

Fun story Anne! I would love to run into you in the grocery store :)
I have had a few people tell me I look like someone they know but they've never had pictures so I always wonder who it is I look like.

That is such a great story, Anne!! I have heard quite often "you look just like....." or "I saw someone who looked just like you"! But never had as wonderful an exchange as you had. How fun!

How fun! I have a very familiar looking face. I get people who actually swear we've met, and my name is "Rachel", "Brittney", "Melissa", "X". 1 lady seriously thought I was lying to her!
But they never end as awesome as yours did!

I was in 7th grade and it was the first time I had been sick at the Jr High... I had to go to the attendance office upon return to school with my note and the attendance lady said to me... you were out again Sherry? I was like no I am not Sherry, and so it began... Sherry was a grade older than I. I found she lived 3 blocks away. In the next few years we would even take the same bus to the HS. One day my neighbor was driving, saw Sherry, thinking she was me, and offered her a ride home! Very funny! When Sherry graduated she signed my copy of the yearbook "to my look a like"... sad to say I heard afterwards Sherry was taking drugs and took something mixed with "angeldust"... I think she ended up in a MH hospital. Sad, but the story of us being look a likes will remain in my memory forever.

oh yes, but I always thought the other looks a lot better than I have ever looked LOL
I do keep finding people that look like some of you here.... and have found some people that look extraordinary alike , in completely different parts of the world....
Like Monica says, I too would love to meet you at the grocery store!!!! (well, it would mean the supermarket to me as we, unfortunately, have very few left of the old fashion ones, and they are expensive LOL

No doppelganger that I'm aware of! But I do have a birthday twin - our very own Sabrina Dupre!

My boy's principal, looks and sounds like our dear Laura. But, she does NOT have the same sweet spirit. She is nice but not precious our Laura nice. And I have a birthday twin too @bellbird aka Justine

People always got my childhood BFF, Brenda and I mixed up as we were growing up ... it caused more confusion for them since we were always (!) together! Brenda's Mum and my Mom became best friends when we were just 6 and 8 months old - we grew up just a mile from each other - she's like my sister. Both had blonde hair, glasses and the same body build. We moved into our first apartment together, took college classes together, started working at the same place on the same day together ... in each others weddings ... still very very close friends today. However; we do not look so much a like these days!! (We were in our junior year of HS here - I went on vacation to Florida with Brenda and her parents - nearly 39 years ago!)

Not really, but I do have a twin sister who is 8 years younger than me. My sister was born on my birthday. Of my sisters, we look the most alike. This photo was taken about 6 years ago.

oh my goodness! these are awesome stories!! Two years ago, we were at the state speech and debate tournament and I was a chaperone and judge. We were hanging out in the "judges house" (aka cafeteria/mpr at a school). A teacher/assistant coach from our school came up to me and she was so embarrassed. She had walked up behind a man and rubbed his back and started talking to him. She thought it was her husband. (He was also a chaperone/judge for the weekend too.) The man turned around quite surprised. It was a total stranger who looked SO MUCH like Tom (the husband). It was a hoot and a half. By the end of the day, we found the man again and actually had Tom and him take a picture together. They looked like they could be brothers. Their mannerisms and walk were so similar too!

I don't have any stories to share but an enjoying reading all the posts. What a fun thread!

Such a fun thread, love reading these type of stories as well. @JillW wow Jill, you could be twins! fabulous photo! and @BevG you and your sister sure do look alike and born on your birthday! what a coincidence! I have had a couple of people say that I look like another lady that lives in my town, I have seen her and I can't see any resemblance though. :)
