that you don't know? I think my teenager does this just to see if I will actually admit that I am not cool and have no idea about her slang. She texted me a few days ago and called me a "homeskillet" - I looked at DH and said, "Is that good or bad?" :giggle I had to look it up on urban dictionary. hahahhaha Thankfully, it was good.

Do your kids keep you guessing with slang?

homeskillet!! that made me laugh:giggle

Fortunately, right now the only words my boys are using that I don't know are ones that they have made up :) but I am sure as they get older, they will completely be doing that!

Uh my 18 & 16 year old cousins do all the time...and I am afraid to repeat some of them because I am sure they aren't good...

In text form it's worse...the 18 year old got mad once because I had no idea what she texted me and I was trying to google it to figure it out and apparently that was taking too long :giggle

This is the same child who had no idea who Alanis Morissette was...I had never felt so old in my entire life...

haha - homeskillet! Never heard that. My kids are too young yet to do that, but I'm just waiting for the day, lol

Just got done telling off my 14-year old for not telling me what "friendzone" is. And I asked her nicely. She said something like "I didn't need to know the meaning of it...". So THIS momma got all in a huff and told her that if she used a word to my face, I BETTER know the meaning of it! Hmp!

And it;s her birthday today, too! Grr.

LOL Homeskillet... that would be something you find in the kitchen department, right? :giggle

DH and DS have a whole vocabulary of gamer speak that is complete Greek to me, but the slang isn't happening too much here yet. But I'm sure that day is coming.

My 5 year old makes up her own language - and then tells us what it means. But fortunately, I am not yet at the point where they are using slang terms that I need to google.

My daughter says I shouldn't use any abbreviations/shortcuts in my texting. She said it's "too weird".

HOMESKILLET!!! HAHAHA!!! That is frickin' awesome.

I can't WAIT for the day when my kiddos start makin' up cool words to say.
For now it's just all of the cool words I make up or my brother (their uncle).
Too funny Laura!

I heard my sons use 'Homeskillet' a few years ago. I love it!

I hear all the bad ones since I work at the schools. (Yea, gonna pass on posting them here, though!)

LOL at homeskillet! mine are too young yet, but I'm sure its coming! right now all I get is things like them saying, "Tico Taco Tico Taco" and I have to ask what that means, and they say, "duh mom, its from Rio!" :)

Hmm... never heard of homeskillet before... now I'm going to have to go look that up!! :)

Kiddo is 5 - right now it's only words he makes up or mispronounces... and throws some Spanish in there from Dora... hahaha

I don't know, Laura - I used ghetto slang with you last week and you had no idea what I was talking about... HAHAHAHAHA

Maybe it's because I'm young or maybe it's because of where I live, but I've heard homeskillet a lot, and for a long time (not from my kids, though).

The latest one from my almost 12 year old is "beast". "Oh man - this game is so BEAST!" "Did you see that movie? It was BEAST!"

What the heck?? Beast???

why is it cool when THEY say it....but "MOM" is such a dork when she uses the cool slang?!

Thankfully my boys aren't old enough for the just yet... but that was too funny! :) I know it's just a matter of time!

Mine really don't use slang. They used the word "brown" when they were younger...I'd have to ask them what it meant again, and there might have been a few other words. Nowdays, it would just be bad words. I know all those! :)

So what is it then ?

My 8 year old asked me what wtf stands for I was like hmm and he added quick it means where's the food, little bugger obviously knew the other meaning

LOL... I haven't heard homeskillet in awhile. We used to use that a lot. My DD occasionally would come up with something new/weird, but it was generally pretty obvious. The only one that took me awhile was "plox" and it turned out that it was her new term for "thanks."

Now I have to laugh because sometimes I come up with trendy things before she does. Hahahahha. I have to educate her. Then she goes to work and tells her peeps and sounds like she's cool. The show Portlandia is one of those things that we watched because we'd read something about it, and then when it started blowing up in popularity, her friends at work started saying catch-phrases from it and she already knew them all. :giggle
