As the title says,so do you decide to read the book by the picture on the cover ?

I'm ashamed to admit I do,if the cover doesn't appeal to me it makes me think the story won't either so I usually skip it

I've also been known to take my books into calibre to see if there is an alternative cover that I like more

Oh dear think I have a problem

I'm like you... if I see an ugly cover, I don't pick it up. Isn't that terrible? Maybe it is because we're so used to all of the gorgeous digi scrap pages. :giggle

I know I'm always worried that if I get a book published, they'll want some gross cover, and then what will I do? LOL

I do. A boring, non-inspiring cover won't make me want to pick up the book. That is unless I've seen rave reviews about it.

I totally do judge a book by it's cover. I have to have heard fabulous things about a book to overlook a bad cover! LOL!

A few years ago I would have sworn that I didn't, but now I must admit that if I see many more books with pale pastel covers with a girly curly font I think I might possibly throw up. I see one and I drop it like a hot coal.....

i'm guilty too ... but more so i tend to pick my next "must reads" bc of reviews, so i will tend overlook the cover (or rather if there's 5 books on a list that i must read, i prioritize them by who's got the most appealing cover. )

I totally do. I also HATE when my favorite books get made into movies and the movie poster is the new cover. My soul dies a little each time.

LOL Molly! I used to think it was weird the way my boys would pick up video games and look at the back and know immediately if they would like it or not. They were doing the same thing I do with books I guess.

This is the biggest problem with e-books. You lose contact with the cover and end up with many books you never would have read.

I think that I still judge a book by the cover with my Kindle even though I din't really see it once I have bought it and loaded it up. I still am influenced by the cover at the point of purchase :D

Having the kindle is worse cause I don't go in a shop to buy I just browse and one click so it makes it worse

i've thought about this for a few weeks since i saw the title of this thread and in the end i have to say that i'm a yes and no - the covers in australia/uk are generally different to the american releases and what i see on goodreads most of the time so just when i see something i like, when i go to buy it and it looks different, i get a bit disappointed - like the divergent book is the first one that comes to mind - i saw the image on the left and it was a bit insta-love, but my copy looks like the image on the right, that i can't say i feel much for - lucky i'd read the blurb and was sold on that already really.

i'm guilty of judging a book by it's title too.
