Do you camp?

My hubby's family grew up camping a ton. My family, not so much (my mom firmly believed that "flushy toilets" were a necessity. hahaa!

We have camped about once a summer ever since we got married, I have been a grumbler about it. BUT, now that we don't have any tiny babies anymore, I love camping. Well, and other than the bugs that fly in my food. We went camping this past weekend and it was so great to teach my kids some old school campfire songs, go fishing, just walking around outside together.

My kids had so much fun! we love camping!

Do you camp? Full on tent camping? cooking over a fire? etc.

we tent it (with cots for my hubby and me) (looking forward to a camper one day.)
cook over the campfire...with dutch ovens
fish, play games, go for walks, and chat.

AHHH good times! :beat

We camp quite often throughout the year and have a 27' RV. It's absolutely wonderful to not have to tent it anymore and we also have a 7800 watt generator so if there are no hookups we've got power! Heck, we even have satellite TV! Just about all the comforts of home.

I hate hate hate camping. I don't like to fish, I don't like to sleep on the ground. I told Dusty that if he wants me to go camping, I at the very least, have to have an air mattress. We haven't been in a few years, thank goodness!

I also totally agree about the toilets. And a shower is a necessity too!

God no. My idea of roughing it is the Holiday Inn Express. I need showers and bathrooms. And expensive sheets, and my pillow. The list goes on.

As a cub scout mom, camping was a necessity. My son missed (I think) only 3 camping trips as a cub scout. My ex-husband just laughed when I started packing for us to go. We used to carry these HUGE bins filled with food, clothes, supplies, tents, blankets, air mattresses, etc with us. But we usually always had what we needed. Our cub scout pack only camped at places with "porcelain" our verbiage for flush toilets and running water.

Mosquitoes LOVE me, are drawn to me and bite me incessantly. So when you entered or exited the tent, you did it as quickly as possible so that there would be no mosquitoes to bite Mom later. I get so cold, I used to be up til all hours of the night shivering when we camped even with blankets.

Sadly (NOT) when they switch to boy scouts the parents no longer camp with them. Thank goodness! My daughter actually misses it and is taking her boyfriend and a bunch of college buddies camping for a long weekend in June. Thanks, but I'll pass!!

We camp - in a tent, but always on a site with facilities (love the term 'porcelain'). Just booked a site in the south of France for our summer trip, it has a pool :). We have self-inflating mattresses which are great - they look really thin, but are amazingly comfy. We take electric hook up equipment if its at either end of the season or we're going for more than a few days, so we have heating.

I love camping...we tent camp with airbeds and always in places that have running water..lol. I love cooking over a campfire though and we don't even own a camp stove, but that's on DH's wishlist. Haven't been camping in a few years but hoping to get out there again this year since there are some state parks near here that are supposed to be awesome to camp at.

I love the *idea* of camping. There's something romantically rugged and in tune with nature and all things beautiful about it. So I always think about it in a dreamy.."this is so awesome" and "I really want to do this" kind of way.

But in practice? Meh. I am a decent camper..but I find, there's just a little too much of "I don't like these bugs eating me and I don't want to NOT have a toilet" in me to be the best camper in the world.

Sara, I love the "idea" of it too. I also need some sort of facilities. I am not for truly roughing it! :)

I think I would LOVE a decent trailer that enables me to have MOST of the comforts, but to be out in nature.:)

We love camping! I require a flushy toilet and a hot shower tho. NO way am I peeing in the woods. We do tent camp which is what we like, but we do air mattresses for everyone. We have a big 3 room tent - one room for me and dh, the middle room as a "family" room where we keep our bags, and then the other room for all the kids. It is a huge tent - we can all stand up in it and it is even spacious for the kids while sleeping (5 of them). We have the floors of the "bedrooms" lined with air mattresses.

We love more scenic, plain campgrounds without a lot of activities as well as the more resorty type campgrounds. We have a really nice one close to us that is just your typical campground, but has a lovely park and trails, and we can even commute to work if we want to camp without taking time off, lol.

We are also die-hard campfire cookers. I don't know why, but we think bringing camp stoves, etc, ruins the camping! Some of our fav things to make are pie iron tacos, pie iron smores, and all kinds of packets - we just take heavy duty foil and wrap all kinds of meats, veggies, potatoes, whatever in it and cook it over the fire. Yumm.

The only thing I hate is bugs. This year we are getting a screened in gazebo which should help a ton. This thing: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-15-In...90PG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1337024998&sr=8-6

I am totally anti bug! we had a moth y on my daughters stew and she freaked out...wouldn't even eat another bite of it. LOL!! Luckily we made enough for an army! LOL

I totally wouldn't eat a bowl of stew if I had seen a bug in/on it, lol. Now, if a bug gets on my sandwich or something more solid, I just remove the part the bug was on and eat the rest. LOL

Hubs and my stepson go on a big camping trip once a summer. I imagine by next year that Monkey will be old enough to want to go, too.

I told Hubs I'd be *happy* to go camping with him once he acquired a pop-up camper for me to sleep in and parked it next to a toilet and shower. :yesss

Besides the ick factor, I have a bad back that makes it impossible to sleep on the ground, so there's no way I could tent it. Even an air mattress is not enough support for me.

I'd love to go fishing, boating, cooking over the fire, etc. but roughing it is just not in the cards for me.

I haven't camped since I was a Girl Scout. I don't even enjoy sitting out in the yard that much between the bugs and allergies!

What's funny is, I LOVE being outside. But when it's bedtime, I must come in. LOL

We are a family of campers here too. We tent camp it, but recently we've been adding things like cots and a bigger tent to our "gear" We cook over the fire and love to hike, fish, etc. I also require that there are flushy toilets in the campground though. When I was in my 20s I did a lot of backpacking and real roughing it with dehydrated food and stuff like that. It was fun when I didn't have kids. Now I can't imagine taking them on that kind of trip. Maybe in a few more years we'll give it a shot with them. :) They are 6 and 8 now... so maybe they're almost ready. :)

We ♥ ♥ ♥ camping!! DH & I went as often as we could before kids. Then AMP came along & there was NO way I was going w/ a colicy baby!. Our first trip was when La was about 15 mths old & AMP was about 2.5 yrs. It was soo much fun we've gone every summer since. This summer will be our 4th family camping trip & our first with the 2 yr old twins.

We only go once since they're all so little. I can see us camping as much as we can afford when they are older.

We tent camp, cook over the fire, hike, swim & try to find some fun train-related adventure around the area. I don't need much - a hot shower somewhere on the campgrounds is my only requirement. . . I can be pretty hardcore sometimes, but last summer finally didn't protest the inflatable air mattress DH brings now that I have S-I joint issues.

Amen! ;)

We "camp" once a year... and it's in a camper for like two nights... but no running water. I do not look forward to it...

We went camping once with the kids, I LOVE camping Me and DH used to go all the time before we had the kids.
Right now we are having troubles doing anything outdoors because Mystaya has a HUGE phobia of bugs *ANY bug* when she was little she was allergic to them and now she freaks when she see's anything that isn't an ant. And not little freak she yells like someone is beating her.
So as you can assume we can't go camping unless we hear her screaming 24 7.
This past weekend we took a little hike to see some gorgeous waterfalls and she couldn't even do that :(

We started camping in 2005 but ONLY in campsites that had toilets and running water (ie, showers) most of the time. We never went camping when I was a kid. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't like sleeping on the ground and in tents and he's communicated that dislike to my son. My son has a definite limit to how long he'll go or how often. My daughter loves it, though.
