Can we talk about this? I'm wondering where everyone backs all their stuff up. I'm outgrowing my system a little and before I upgrade I wanted to see what everyone else does. :)

Currently my videos: uploaded to youtube (private) and backed up on ehd.

Photos: 2012, 2013 are on ehd only, eek! Must fix this, but it's SO much. 2014 are on dropbox, Google photos, and my ehd.

Digital supplies & layouts: hard drive and ehd.

I trust the cloud more than even double backups on my hd and ehd, so I'm thinking about upgrading my dropbox and keeping everything except videos there. I'm not sure.

Hard drive for current month or two of kits and pictures/lo's, 2 ehds with kits and duplicates of my photos. Another disconnected ehd that I keep at work in my desk drawer. I use my Dropbox more for transferring things than storing.

There was a post a while back about crashplan - there are many TLP'ers using this. I'll see if I can find the thread and link you up!

Hello,
This is a link about backing up.
And here there is talk about BlackBlaze versus Crashplan

I am also definitely jumping into this too, so I'll follow the threads a bit to decide...

i'm trying to decide on a better system myself. i am not great about backing up my EHDs. one of my EHDs nearly died last week. well, it was dead. would not mount, no noise at all, but the light did come on. and not everything was backed up elsewhere. i kept my cool though ... husband ordered a SATA Adaptor connector thingy (sorry this is so over my head). we found that most EHDs are poorly made and it is often the connectors that can dislodge or loosen and cause your EHD to stop working. this SATA thing is like a direct connection btwn your EHD and your computer. he opened up the case ... took out the existing connectors and plugged this SATA thing in .... and it worked. whew. close call. was less than $25. and no need to go to an expensive recovery company.

needless to say i am working on coming up with a better system so i don't have to go through this again. lesson learned. will be watching this thread closely. but wanted to share that offshoot topic on EHDs "crashing" in case any goes through this ... might be a possible solution for them.

I had the case too of EHD failure. Lost all of the first months after MAxim was born....
NOw I have 3 ehd's but to follow it all up is another question and I'm not really confident with them anymore too...

I have a Clickfree back up drive, I connect it to my computer once a week and it backs up all the new stuffs. It does EHDs and my computer drive. You can set it up by choosing what drives and what file types you want to include in your back up. My is a 2T drive. I've had this kind of back up drive for several years now. When I bought my new laptop I used my Clickfree to copy my files to the new drive.

I tried the on-line storage but I find them very slow. This drive usually take about 30 minutes each week and I feel I have more control over my files.

I recently had an EHD fail and was in mourning (still am a little but mostly over it). I was in the process of backing everything up to a new network drive when my little one died. I lost a lot of layouts and LOTS of digi kits, brushes. Thankfully the first thing I did was back up my photos so they were all safe. I learned the hard way after a hard drive crash that wiped out 3 years of my son's life and of course I hadn't printed any of the photos :(

This is a good reminder that I need to get back to spending an evening backing my stuff up to all the drives.
