My sister wants to dip her toes in the world of digi-scrapping (yay!!!!) but doesn't have photoshop and is wondering what program (free or cheap) she could use to test the waters. I've only ever used publisher and photoshop, so I'm not sure what to tell her. I'm counting on someone here being able to help me out! Thanks ladies! You're the best! :flirty

You can get a 30 day free trial of Photoshop Elements from Adobe's website. That's a great program for beginners. It's also fairly inexpensive to purchase if she likes it. Yay for new recruits!! :)

If she really want to just capture pictures and words together (an easy form of digi scrapping) she could try just making Shutterfly books. I think you can move photos around and add text boxes and also add some elements to the pages too. Then she wouldn't have to buy any software.

I second the Photoshop Elements. It's what I used back in the day :)

Yep PSE. Inexpensive, and since most of the tutorials and such are PS based, she'll be able to follow them.

If she's pretty tech-savvy, GIMPs not to tricky to get the hang of. I still prefer it to PSE, the newer version that's out now is easier and a bit more like PS/PSE.

I'll second (or is it fourth) the PSE suggestion. Within 30 days she should have an idea if she'll like it and PSE is pretty reasonable to purchase. Then any tips on message boards will make sense because they'll be speaking the same language.

thanks ladies! my other sister (a graphic artist) suggested the same thing and Emily is downloading now! she's also signing up here now, so look for her as EmStoltzfus around the forum!

I would go for ACDSee's photo editor. That's what I'm using and loving it! I can work PSD files, is very very user-friendly & easy to get around with, it doesn't take up a whole lot of RAM, has lots of fun tools & trics and it's also pretty cheap! I used to scrap with PSP (using ACDSee's editor for about 4 yrs now) and always shut down with taking up too much space...didn't have a good pc back then. I don't have any experience with PSE...do with PS CS4, but just for editing photos...LOL

Make sure you check out the Digital Scrapping Manual at the The Daily Digi - its an awesome guide for getting started.
