Desks: Messy or Tidy? | Pad Patter 7.27.16.

it gets really messy, then I clear out....a few hours later is messy again...so is a constant up and down.....

I am one of those out of sight, out of mind people. I hate clutter, where it can be seen. Just don't open my closets lol. My desk is almost always neat, but again, don't look in the drawers. Although, I do clean everything out in the summer and even the closets and drawers stay neat for a little while :)

Ugh, My desk is almost always a mess, partially because of my own stuff, but also because that's where everyone puts all the stuff that they don't know what to do with, or that needs attention. Blurgh! Leave my desk alone! I have enough trouble keeping it clean on my own! Lol!

Had a party here yesterday for Courtney. Things from the counter moved over here for safe keeping. Hoping to get it clean again soon

I had to take something up to dh's office today, and while mine can be messy at times, it is clean. I have not had a cold etc for years and I spray the desk, mouse and keyboard once a week with alcohol after I sort money for a group for which I'm the treasurer. So once a week the piles get shifted and some of the papers get trashed.

Now his office....gah. It's messy AND dirty with used tissues, coffee stained papers and faded credit card receipts etc etc all over. He has the Ikea three table wrap around desk (no long sold sadly) and it's an absolute fire hazard. Fortunately he doesn't smoke...but once in a while I throw a fit :hissyand make him clean out the papers and dust bunnies under the desk. At least that area is fairly, fairly, safe from an electrical fire as there are multitudes of cords everywhere.

And yes, he can find most anything in that three desk pile, and works part time consulting so what can I say. There's $$ in that filth! :shrug

My desk & office are a disaster. I did a layout of it for the 2016 Photography challenge over at TLP. You can see how bad it is. (This is my "work" space, at home, it is still messy, just not as spread out.)

I am neat and organized. Hubby is opposite and sometimes it drives me crazy. I think he is like you @tkradtke. I often say he needs some device something like the rotating hangers at the dry cleaners, only his would be kind of a flat surface with all his stuff spread out and it would rotate constantly at eye level, then he 1. Could find stuff, and 2. Stop leaving stuff on every surface in the house..
I crave neat.

I start off neat, but if I'm in the middle of a project & I'm super focused my desk may become cluttered with drink cups, snacks, papers, random things the kids bring me.... But when the project is finished (usually a template pack) my desk gets cleaned off again. So, it really doesn't stay messy for long.

And that's kind of how my house is. Neat and tidy, but you may find areas unorganized if I'm in the middle of a project...but it won't last long.

I like a clean desk. However, when I clean it up my son and husband feel the need to drop papers and other stuff on it. So I keep it strategically messy. Because if it's messy, they drop stuff on the kitchen table.

I miss the idea that computers would create a paperless society. Sigh.
all she said. totally.

this too - minus the template design ;)

Mine is usually on the neater side (on the surface) because I can't handle chaos in my space for long. But unlike Cheryl, if you look in the drawers it is a mess!

Recently, I had been doing a lot of hybrid planner pages and things got crazy ... Note: I have 3 Ikea White tables in an L shape that make up my desk area ... all 3 were covered!!!

So I spent a good part of a day, last week, organizing and cleaning/purging. I came out with a better system to store the things I like to keep in my planner and use to decorate my weekly spreads so I feel so much better now... :D Here you can see 1 and 1/2 of the 3 Ikea tables. So just imagine the mess!

ok several things:
1. this is why i can't go back to paper scrapping and so very rarely hybrid and plannering? just... i can't - i'm feeling stressed looking at your before desk
2. dude! and i thought i had a heap of scissors! (but i understand they all have a purpose!)
3. those (?fabric covered) boards & ribbon organisation and 3 ikea desks?! be still my heart :goldstars

1) LOL Justine, i have a system now. the plannering ( i like that verb!) is going well and no more mess.
2) and the scissors ... i have good scissors and junky cheapo scissors because everyone kept stealing my scissors and not returning them. so i bought a ton ... now no one seems to use them or take anymore. murphy's law? IDK. :cornfused
3) and my Dad built me two of those ribbon/wall hanging organization racks years ago (i had an Etsy shop and used a lot of ribbon back in the day ... i should swap out the ribbon and put washi in there now.)

Re the scissors. One of my former bosses was beyond frugal, truly cheap, and she and her husband did a lot of traveling in the summer. At one point they visited the airline salvage place somewhere in the US south, and came back to Maryland with a box of scissors and knives. Dirt cheap. After she got the best ones out for herself, she brought the leftovers into work for the two of us worker bees. I took a couple and pulled out a few left handed scissors for my co-worker. The co-worker used to get so disgusted with this kind of cheapness she wouldn't even look but i think those left handed scissors did come in handy.

This is pretty much me, too! I have a REALLY hard time starting a new project (even a digital layout) unless my work table and desk are cleaned off.

I'm pretty adamant about keeping my computer desktop cleaned up, too. If I *really* need something to be at the Desktop level, I actually have a folder on my desktop just to hold those items. That way I have just one thing sitting there instead of 10!

Mine's a bit messy but not a total disaster. Organized chaos, shall we say! I usually have about ten sticky notes in front of me as reminders plus various piles of half finished projects/work and a huge pile of filing! I hate filing!

Melissa, I used to be like this when I did my own taxes for 20+ years. The HOUSE had to be cleaned and neat before I could put my mind to it. It did teach me that I needed no visual clutter before I could start an important project. After 15 years with my husband, I've learned to ignore a lot -which is a good and a bad thing.

Messy. As soon as I clean up and put things away I can't find what I'm looking for. Happens every time.
