Happy Wednesday everyone. Here in the UK it's National Bike to School Day. School do a count of how many of their pupils cycle to school today, and they get special funding if they have the best % of cycling students in their area. Pupils are sometimes rewarded too. Joy cycled to school as she normally does.

Do you have a bike?
Do you cycle as a form of transport?
Do you cycle for fun or for sport?

Joy and I recently swapped bikes. She was wearing hers out, and following an injury last summer I've been unable to ride.
For us bikes are our preferred mode of transport. Obviously it's for local journeys only. Although I do know someone who cycles 50+ miles a day. Sometimes we cycle for a recreational ride, but not for sport.

Our public schools have a bike-to-school day each spring. Given the crazed drivers in Northern VA I don't think it's particularly safe. In fact for the elementary school students the schools usually ask the parents to accompany their students.

I think the last time I rode a bike was 20 years ago simply to prove to my grandson that I could ride a bike.

We are fortunately enough to have a lot of cycle tracks in our town.

I think it's wonderful that bikes are your preferred method for transport Angela.

Do you have a bike?
Yes I have a nice bike from my husband's uncle but I don't use it very often. A few years ago my kids and I would ride around the neighborhood but we don't any more.

Do you cycle as a form of transport?
No because I feel safer driving in a car.

Do you cycle for fun or for sport?
When we cycle it is for fun or exercise.

I would love to cycle more, but the hills around here are just too much for me anymore lol
I used to have a bike, but not anymore. My older 2 used to ride all over the neighborhood when they were younger, all day every day. They never really left our subdivision on them, mainly because the roads are just too unsafe...curvy, no bike path, nothing. The youngest has a bike, but never has enjoyed it as much.

Do you have a bike?
Yes. It's a few years old now, but it replaced my old one which..... was on the back of the car driving home from a trip to Vermont... and all of a sudden, I look in the mirror, count and realize we are missing a bike! Eeeek... pulled over, and someone followed to tell us we lost our bike a few miles out. hahahahah!

Do you cycle as a form of transport?
Not really. NJ is really small state, but we have loads of cars, people, and it's just not for me, regularly. At the beach, we do ride bikes, but it's mostly the kids.

Do you cycle for fun or for sport?
Fun or exercise.

We all have bikes and use the quite a lot in the summer months in our little town. We live in a beach town and it explodes with tourists in the summer, so parking is usually sparse and it's faster to just ride our bikes the one mile into town than it is to drive. My youngest son works at a frozen yogurt store downtown, so he definitely will either get us to drop him off at work or he will ride his bike to avoid parking.

We also ride our bikes along the beach and around town just for fun and light exercise as long as it's not too beastly hot.

Does 30 min daily on my excercise bike count? lol... I wouldn't dream on cycling to work or anywhere these days, though years ago, when we lived in Singapore, we did cycle to the beach every weekend and hubby cycled to work too.

That's so cool that they do the cycle to school day! I used to ride my bike to school as a kid and I loved riding by bike as a teenage and I just needed to get away from the parents but I never ride now. Unless I am at the beach! I love to rent a beach cruising bike and ride!

We live in the mountains. Biking would be intense! LOL. We can't ride in our neighborhood, it's too steep. My kids can ride just a tiny bit in our driveway. I'll load up the bikes every once in awhile and we'll head to the greenway.
