Happy National Cucumber Day!

I have always loved cucumbers. I grew up planting and harvesting them in our backyard garden. My mom always likes to plant lemon cucumbers and a different variety for pickling (Kirby maybe?).

English cucumbers are my oldest child’s go-to veggie. My second child prefers her cucumbers as baby dill pickles. I prefer the English cucumbers as well because they’re less likely to be bitter and they have smaller seeds.

How about you? Do you like cucumbers? Do you have a favorite variety? Have you ever grown your own?

living in England, we obviously have the English Cucumber variety. We have them as part of salads. I've never tried growing my own.

I love cucumbers ... I just buy the "regular" cucumbers at my grocery store. The only cucumbers we've ever grown was a plant my youngest grandson started at preschool then brought home.

I have cucumbers in my daily "lunch" salad, and I like cucumber salad made with cukes and onions (sometimes diced tomatoes) with a vinegar, water, sugar, salt and pepper. I also just slice and eat them. Yum!

That's fun your youngest grandson brought home a cucumber plant! My kids have brought home flowers and herbs (the basil was my favorite).

He also brought home a "grass catapillar" ... dirt and grass seed stuffed into a stocking with pipe cleaner antennas and some sort of eyes (I don't remember exactly as he's now 18). It was one of my fav crafts he did. (image below is from internet)

I liked them when I was little but not so much now (although I do like pickles!). My son is allergic so we don't usually buy them.

Those are adorable!

I'm probably the opposite and liked them less when I was little.

I eat them like candy, lol! I sprinkle a little salt, and I'm good. I buy the little packages of the mini ones at Costco, or English ones. The regular ones at the grocery have such big seeds. I have them everyday for lunch. I like the crunch... I probably eat 6-7 minis or one English one a day at work.

We did try to grow them... we had a lot... but they weren't as flavorful, and had giant seeds. No thanks!

I like them with a little salt, or sometimes ranch but it seems that every single time I buy them they suddenly become invisible when placed in the fridge. I've thrown out so many untouched, uneaten, already spoiled cucumbers that I decided to take a break in pretending I'm going to eat them for a bit!

Love them, we have Mediterranean ones, baby ones and English ones and I like them all, including pickles.

I've never been a fan of cucumbers. I don't remember my opinion of them before adulthood, but somewhere around my late 20's I determined that they give me a gassy tummy ache and I stopped eating them entirely. A couple of years ago, upon becoming vegan, I decided to give them another try. I didn't get a tummy ache, but I also didn't try much at one time, they've been few and far between. I'm still not choosing them at the grocery store. And I don't know if I'll ever like them with the skin left on.

I love cucumbers. A couple of years ago, I came across a recipe for cucumber salad with mint, and that is my favourite way to eat them. I'm not a pickle fan, I'm not sure why not.

I did successfully grow cucumbers 2 or 3 summers ago. But I was constantly fighting a rearguard action against the squirrels!...

The seeds are the worst! I like the mini ones from Costco too.

lol this is me with so many veggies! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I'm sorry they gave you a tummy ache! That would make me not a fan for sure. I'm also not a huge fan of the skin.

Cucumber salad with mint sounds delicious!

Sorry about the squirrels...thankfully I've never had that problem with growing plants.
