CS6 and Cloud?

Has anyone gotten CS6 yet? Today is the last day of their Black Friday deals and after looking at the new blur gallery I am REALLY tempted. I don't understand the whole cloud concept, from what I can see it's basically renting? This kind of makes sense I guess because they come out with an upgrade every 18 months of so (already talks of CS7 swiriling around) but I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it out :)

I bought CS6 and love it! Haven't really looked into the Cloud thing yet, just skimmed it the other day.

I have Creative Cloud and it is basically a subscription plan. I love it though, because it's way easier for us to budget the $30 a month than to try and come up with the grand or so it would take to buy the Creative Suite outright! But between my husband and me, we use a lot of the software and I do a lot of freelance graphic design. I think getting the latest version of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom for $30 a month (educational pricing, my husband's a teacher, but if you have kids in school, my understanding is that you're eligible for the education pricing).

I thought about it, but I'm not sure. I seem to only upgrade every 2 releases, so I'm not sure I'd save. I don't usually buy the whole thing, just whatever the smallest one is that includes PS and AI. I am due to upgrade now, though, as I have CS4, so that's what is making it tempting.

I've been considering cloud, but I know I wouldn't save overall. It is very tempting though because it is much easier to come up with 30 a month than several hundred outright. Can anyone that has cloud tell me if it is just for one computer, or can you DL to each of your computers?

I don't need the whole suite just photoshop (I already have LR and don't need Illustrator) I think that's $19 a month, I wonder if that's better off then buying it. Hmmmmmm

I had not heard of this but went to check it out after reading your post. It looked tempting but then after I started calculating it would end up costing me more in the end. We get the teacher discount through academicsuperstore and it's even less than what they advertise on the Adobe site and I don't upgrade often. I have been using CS3 for about 4 or 5 years and I am still good with LR2 LOL. Also, for me, those are the only programs I would use (I might be tempted to try illustrator but doubt I would actually ever find the time to learn it) so I would be paying for a bunch of extras that would never benefit me. Plus, if you ever decided to unsubscribe from the cloud then you would lose all the programs that you downloaded and if you hadn't upgraded in several years I think you would be pretty much stuck?! I think it was a brilliant way for Adobe to sucker people in to their stuff IMO.

I am really considering it. I have CS5 right now (missed the free upgrade by 12 days to CS6). I would love to try out AI and there is no way I can afford it outright right now. Hmmmmmmm, decisions decisions.

Oh Val...they have a new gallery of blur filters...iDie... it's worth that alone

Admittedly, I am totally in a NyQuil induced brain fog at the moment, but I can't seem to figure out...can you use this on more than one computer? My DH, DD and I all use different adobe programs, so could we share the same account or would I need to pay for 3 subscriptions. I couldn't find an answer, even in the FAQ. Anyone know?

I came across a thread moons ago and it seems that you can..however I'm a bit sketchy on the "at the same time" bit. Because even with the non-cloud version you can install on more than one computer (i.e. laptop and desktop), provided they aren't used at the same time. It would be extraordinarily helpful if you could have one subscription per household.

I'm really considering the cloud since the thought of having the most recent versions of my software would be lovely. But then again, I also feel wedded to the actually physically owning it thing. Hmm...

I should probably mention too that the way Adobe does upgrades is supposed to be changing at the end of this year. Right now you can upgrade from CS4 or CS3 to CS6. After December 31 you will only be able to upgrade from one version previous (in this case, CS5). I have a feeling this will be the way of the future for Adobe. I think you'll only be able to get upgrade pricing from one version previous. I suspect they are trying to shuttle users to the cloud feature.

"You can install the desktop applications available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time. You will have access to both the Mac OS and Windows versions, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, for instance, you can install your applications on both. See the product license agreements page for more information."

I know Steph (Daily Digi) subscribes because she has both a Windows laptop and a Macbook, so it's way cheaper than buying both versions of the software.

Since it's linked to your Adobe ID, though, you can't activate the software on more than two computers, or be actively using it on two systems at the same time?

You can install it on two computers at once and, strangely, you can use them both at the same time.

Also, just so you know, if you upgrade less often than every two years, it is more expensive to do the subscription. Lifehacker did a breakdown here: http://lifehacker.com/5904416/rent-...ud-subscription-cheaper-than-buying-photoshop

That being said, I think this was before Adobe announced that upgrades were only going to work version to version, so I'm not sure exactly how that changes things.

But am I right in understanding that this new way they are doing will not affect the student/teacher discount? We do not ever buy an upgrade version for ours, we simply buy the full version at teacher discount.
