I need a crash course,i can knit but cant crochet so who knows how to do it and is it hard to learn?

Oooh, I would like to learn too! Watching this thread with interest...

I know how to crochet. I think it's easier to learn than knitting. I was never able to get the hang of knitting. It's all about the tension, just like knitting. You should be able to find lots of stuff online or a basic how-to in your local craft store.

so would i be able to make something that resembles something pretty quick or would i be making a dish cloth lol and yep kate bloody dependable too

Ok, I taught myself to crochet a few weeks ago :)

So I'm not an expert but I've already made a few things.

I used a combination of a book i got from the library - Chicks with Sticks, which has 'lessons' in different stitches and techniques and patterns to practise them. I'm sure there are other books which are similar - and the Lion Brand learning to crochet resources on their website. I found these really useful as it explains it in writing but also demonstrates it on video.

So far I've made a pair of wrist warmers (which I need to sew up) for me, a hat for my daughter, a scarf for my other daughter and a lacy shawl thing for the dressing up box :). I'm working on cardigans for them at the moment. Lion also has a lot of good free patterns.

Here's the hat :

And - slight thread hijack, sorry - but does anyone know where I can get some patterns for children above the age of three? I've found loads of nice baby/toddler stuff and loads of nice adult stuff but nothing in between!

Ohhhh nice work! :)
As for the patterns, the best resource I've found is Ravelry. If you go into the Advanced Search, you can search for Children...which is specifically for kids, not toddlers or babies. HTH

Okay, that hat is adorable, and makes me want to start crocheting again!!

Love the hat, and love all the tips. I can't crochet or knit, or sew but am hoping to learn a few things in the next few years. The videos will definitely be helpful!

I've been crocheting for 23 years and I love it!! It's my release. The secret, like Melissa said, is in the tension. I recommend getting bamboo needles though, so much easier on the hand.
