If you were to put everyone's age on your cover, would you put their age as of Jan 1 or the age they'll turn this year?

Oh... it seemed like an easy question to answer so I popped right in here to share my two cents. Then I thought hmmm, what would I do?

scratching my head....

thinking... :think

This is a good question. I am glad you asked it. I'll be watching to see what others suggest.

I think if using an age is a priority for you then go with the age they will turn during that year.

My dilemma is that my son will be 9 this year. He will not celebrate his birthday until mid December, so I don't know about using 9 on the cover for him when he will have spent most of this year at age 8. Does that even make sense? BAH!! Anyway, clearly I am confused easily... :giggle I think for that reason I would likely not use an age on the cover of my albums. For simplicity sake. :lmao

Trista...I have the opposite problem. Mike and Nicholas' birthdays are both in January. Nick will be 7 on Friday...so saying he's 6 isn't really all that accurate for the year.

What if you make a tag line of some sort on the cover saying something like, Starting off the year....ages 51, 37, 7, and 3. Or whatever the proper ages are. ;)

If thought about this too, I was thinking of putting the age they'll be for MOST of the year. My boys will be 9 and 7 in feb, so that's what I'd put for them. Although I might just leave ages off!

Or just slip their birthdates in there somewhere :)

"Johnny 5.5.01"
"Sally 10.2.05"

well it's a cover so the beginning of the album. To me it would make most sense it was their age in the beginning of the year. You could always do something similar at the end of the year as a sort of end page

you could do their age on Jan 1 and then do it again on the closing page as of December 31... then I usually do an insert or special birthday page for everyone... I have one January baby and the other two are November and December, so for me I wouldn't want to do the most of the year ages since it would feel off to me

I also like the idea of adding the birth date with the age

I'd probably put Joe, age 6 on January 10, 2014, etc.

I always love the pages that I actually remember to put the age on because it saves me from doing the math later on. :)

Ain't that the truth. I always date, but rarely put ages. I find it's harder and harder to even remember the year of each kid's birth, LOL. However, I feel OK that at least I'll have it down for someone in a later generation to figure out :giggle.

It's a great idea to put their ages in the beginning. They'll appreciate it in years to come because they won't have to guess how old anyone was in the pics.

This is so me, too. If I don't have to do the math, it's great.

You could summarize ages like this:
Joe, 2/14/01, age 12 to 13 in 2013.

Hm. You know, it's not a bad idea. I hadn't thought about adding ages to my PL pages unless it was a birthday, but I can see how awesome it would be adding it here and there. Kids grow up so fast! (my 12 yo son's voice suddenly deepened over Winter break this year!)

I don't have a cover page, but I did include a card with our names, ages, & grades/jobs for my first week of January. I used the ages we were as of January 1st.

I did mine with our ages on January 1. My daughter was 5. She turned 6 on January 12... so she'll have a special birthday page. She's the only one I really worry about with this. My other kids birthdays are more toward the end of the year. But they get special birthday pages also. :)

Yeah, I had never thought about this, but this is a really good point!!

Thinking through this, I think Iwould do the age they are Jan 1, then insert a birthday page for each to mark the change from Jan1 age to their new age.

I agree with the idea of putting the age on January 1st. To me, my scrapbook is a story. A story starts at the beginning, usually. I think it would be confusing if the age was listed as the age they were turning, since birthdays make it into my book and layouts.

I love the idea of adding ages though. I didn't do that last year, just mentioned which age we were turning on our birthday.
