I am so excited! The second Costco in Australia is about to open here in Sydney in about 3 weeks and I just joined up.

I loved Costco when we lived in the US.

I have never been to a Costco in my life but I've also never been to an Ikea or Trader Joes

yay for a new cosco!
as for me, i've never been in a cosco either. so you and i can be in that club together tricia. :)

I couldn't live without Costco. LOL. Seriously - I love that place. We have one within 15 minutes in any direction! :D

I'm honestly not sure if there are even any around us. I did just find out there's an ikea 3 hours away though. Another place I've never been to that people find hard to believe is Chick-fil-a

i love costco. i took back a failed hard drive and they handed me the cash. it was over a year old. no box, no receipt, and somewhat in pieces... you know. i had to try to get my data off. :) oh costco...

and tricia, we so need to get you some chic-fil-a!!

We have memberships to both Sam's Club and Costco cuz we're just crazy that way.

I agree with the Costco/IKEA/Trader Joe's comment about them being the best three places..lol...those three stores are where we do the bulk of our shopping (add Kohl's, Office Depot and Hobby Lobby in there and I really don't ever need to go anywhere else).

I shop at Costco and Trader Joes each week. I love Ikea, but it's an hour away and I just don't get down to San Diego often enough, and when I am there, I don't think to go shopping. I'll have to remember to stop there next time!

Yay for getting one soon!!

I have a Costco close by but never did join now that we are moving again I will look to see if there is one nearby where we end up. I have heard nothing but good things about the bargains. I just get scared off by the bulk stuff...I mean where do you store all that stuff? Does it really come out cheaper???

It can come out quite a bit cheaper if you know you'll use it before it goes bad (I buy very little produce in bulk...usually just potatoes and salad veggies because we go through it fast). I buy almost all of my cheese there, a lot of our meats, and a lot of bulk pantry items (such as flour...but we bake homemade bread 3-5 times a week so we go through it fairly quickly). If your area is anything like ours then gas is often quite a bit cheaper at Costco, we've figured that our gas savings will pay for our membership so that's why we decided to go ahead and get the Costco membership as well as the Sam's (our local Sam's doesn't have gas). I'm lucky that we have a small broom closet that's was outfitted with shelves by the last tenant that lived here which I store most of my bulk purchases in, but you'd be surprised where you can find space. My inlaws stored all their bulk purchases under their stairs, my mom had my dad build a set of shelves in her kitchen for bulk purchases, and before moving here I kept it all in a coat closet.

Costco also lets you check out the store before getting a membership (just go up to the membership counter and tell them you're interested in joining but want to look around first). I would also suggest setting a small budget the first time you go in...it's easy to get carried away and spend way more than you think you're spending. I rarely ever spend more than $50 a trip now but when I first started shopping in bulk a $200+ bill wasn't uncommon. Setting a small budget helps you really plan and purchase the things you know you'll actually save on and use.

I never heard of Trader Joes. Is that like a costco/sams club?

Trader Joe's is a small specialty food chain that focuses a lot on foods with little to no preservatives & additives. There are a lot of really unique foods there that are very reasonably priced. We do a lot of our grocery shopping there (I love that it's so small that if I forget something it's not a hassle to go back to the other end of the store).
